The guiding principle was to creatively respond to the current moment in whatever way that manifested itself. \u201cI\u2019ve always been interested in a magazine as a mood or attitude, rather than something defined by its specific subject matter,\u201d explains editor-in-chief Jasmine Raznahan. \u201cI enjoy the freedom of being able to publish without boundaries in that way. Furniture sitting next to fashion sitting next to art.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For the following 12 issues, <\/span><em><span>Noon<\/span><\/em><span> continued to bring together a diverse, dynamic constellation of contributors, drawing the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/juergen-teller\">Juergen Teller<\/a>, Chris Rhodes, Xavier Mas, Ken Hollings, Jason Evans, and more. Ever responsive to the current climate, in 2020 Raznahan put the magazine on an indefinite hiatus. \u201cThe reason <\/span><em><span>Noon <\/span><\/em><span>ceased publishing in the pandemic was because I felt that the world was moving too quickly \u2013\u00a0things were way too wild and unpredictable \u2013 for a bi-annual to make sense at that particular moment in time. So in that way, even its death was a response to the now of 2020.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, five years later, <\/span><em><span>After Noon 001<\/span><\/em><span>, an evolution of <\/span><em><span>Noon<\/span><\/em><span>, is hitting the shelves and it\u2019s even more liberated than its predecessor in terms of the scope and range. \u201cI considered bringing <\/span><em><span>Noon<\/span><\/em><span> back but I was more excited to give myself the freedom to imagine a new universe, rather than be too connected to an old one,\u201d\u00a0says Raznahan. \u201c<\/span><em><span>Noon<\/span><\/em><span> had such a strong identity, it couldn\u2019t have ever been anything other than what it was. <\/span><em><span>After Noon<\/span><\/em><span> was an opportunity to approach making a magazine in a new way with a different set of codes and no parameters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"fc6753ae-0dae-4085-82f5-b39800af569a\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1430\/0\/1430805.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.75\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"After Noon 001, magazine, art, photography, London\" class=\"img\" height=\"3000\" src=\"https:\/\/analyse.optim.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1430805-1.jpg\" width=\"2250\" title=\"1430805-1\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Juergen Teller x <span class=\"nowrap\">Katharine Hamnett<\/span><\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of After <span class=\"nowrap\">Noon 001<\/span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>In fact, the inaugural issue of <\/span><em><span>After Noon<\/span><\/em><span> is themed \u2018Borders\u2019 and it explores incursions and permeability into various spaces and states of being that feel particularly pertinent. \u201cPrivate and public, reality and illusion, subject and author, time and space,\u201d Raznahan explains. \u201cAgain, the theme very much ties into things that I \u2013 and I think many of us \u2013 are meditating on right now in response to the world in real time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Alongside contributions from <\/span><em><span>Noon<\/span><\/em><span> regulars Juergen Teller and Chris Rhodes, expect <\/span><em><span>After Noon 001<\/span><\/em><span> to include work by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/alister-mackie\">Alister Mackie<\/a>, Angele Chatenet, Sophia Al-Maria, Tice Cin, amongst many others. \u201cIt was very special to bring Juergen Teller and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/katherine-hamnett\">Katharine Hamnett<\/a> back together again since he first shot her campaign back in the 90s,\u201d\u00a0Raznahan tells us. \u201cJuergen shot at her rental flat in Dalston, wearing an exhaustive archive of all of her t-shirts from the 80s to present day exploring the border between fashion and politics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This issue also contains a special handwritten text by Turner Prize nominee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/rene-matic\">Rene Mati\u0107<\/a>, reproduced as a special eight-page booklet. \u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful moment in the magazine. I feel really privileged that they wrote this original piece for us. It is so immediate and powerful,\u201d Raznahan says. \u201cIt was also very special for me to publish Nooshin Shafiee\u2019s photographs of Tehran \u2013 my parents were both born there. Her pictures bring a fresh perspective to a country which has lived in the shadow of its Western lens for time immemorial and she captures such a unifying humanity within her images.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As you may tell, it\u2019s not easy to situate<\/span><em><span> After Noon<\/span><\/em><span> in a tidy way. As with that inaugural issue of <\/span><em><span>Noon<\/span><\/em><span>, over a decade ago, it\u2019s a publication that remains dedicated to exploring the current moment. \u201cIt is a bit more unapologetic, raw and direct, than its predecessor. That mood felt very right and important for the moment.
