href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/beauty\/article\/63225\/1\/sfx-airbrush-artist-mab-hyper-sexualisation-women-bodily-autonomy\">Mab<\/a>, art has always been political. Using the body as her canvas, the SFX artist paints the skin with vivid, surreal designs that are meant to serve as both a commentary on and a reclamation of the hypersexualisation of Black women\u2019s bodies. From working with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CxlVYT5O0ei\/?img_index=1\"><span>Clermont twins<\/span><\/a><span> to creating custom looks at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOqo0fbiNmE\/?img_index=1\"><span>fashion week<\/span><\/a><span>, the young creative\u2019s career has been taking off as of late, despite the fact that airbrushing was, as she previously <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/beauty\/article\/63225\/1\/sfx-airbrush-artist-mab-hyper-sexualisation-women-bodily-autonomy\"><span>told Dazed<\/span><\/a><span>, pushed on to her originally. Her current mastery of the medium, however, was on full display in New York on Saturday (November 1), at her latest live exhibit, <em>Aerosol Couture<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Held at 66 Greene, a concept store, music venue and editorial studio located in downtown Soho, <em>Aerosol Couture<\/em> was a continuation of Mab\u2019s commitment to spotlighting Black beauty. As a commentary on society\u2019s perception of women\u2019s bodies and their rights, Mab uses the body as a canvas to explore how women, especially women of colour, \u201cnavigate the weight of societal expectations whil<\/span><span>e <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/beauty\/article\/63225\/1\/sfx-airbrush-artist-mab-hyper-sexualisation-women-bodily-autonomy\"><span>remaining unapologetically themselves<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"9df30014-efd4-4730-89cd-b38c01265b2e\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1430\/0\/1430272.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"landscape\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"1.5\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"landscape\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Aerosol Couture\" class=\"img\" height=\"2000\" src=\"https:\/\/analyse.optim.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1430272-9.jpg\" width=\"3000\" title=\"1430272-9\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Aerosol Couture<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Photography Alizayuh<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Mab\u2019s recent live exhibit, which was held in partnership with MAC Cosmetics and Chimi, showcased several female and male models, all of whom were members of the artist\u2019s community, including<\/span><span> friends\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/therealgialove\/?hl=en\">Gia Love<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/symone_lu\/?hl=en\">Symone Lu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/jsiim\/?hl=en\">Jordan Simone<\/a>. <\/span><span>Meticulously painted with an assortment of rich colours and textures, one look featured a head-to-toe metallic silver paint job, while another featured shimmering glitter outlines that traced each muscle. No two looks were the same, and yet each emphasised the diversity of the human figure. \u201cWe all have different silhouettes, different body shapes, different muscles, and I really wanted to emphasise that in this show, especially on Black bodies,\u201d says Mab. \u201cIt was very important for me to centre Black bodies in this work because there aren\u2019t a lot of spaces for that, and this is that space.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Along with the painted models and several of Mab\u2019s airbrush paintings, the exhibit also included two acts of performance art. The first was a live airbrushing, in which Mab showed a rapt audience what it looks like to paint someone in real-time. Founded by British music producer Alex Grant, otherwise known as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/_by.alexander\/?hl=en\"><span>By.Alexander<\/span><\/a><span>, the space\u2019s existence as one of the few Black-owned buildings on Greene Street aligned with Mab\u2019s desire to continue to centre community in her work, and made for a well-suited collaboration. \u201cMab\u2019s obsession with every single detail within her practice really felt aligned with the type of mindset I want around me,\u201d says Grant, adding that the space is an environment where life-minded creatives can feel safe to \u201cmake mistakes and experiment\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When it came to reaching out, Mab, who DM\u2019ed both Grant and 66 Greene directly, wasn\u2019t shy about her approach. It\u2019s a philosophy of abundance that\u2019s now guiding her career.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cI feel like I\u2019m at this era in my life where I don\u2019t really wait,\u201d she says. \u201cI used to be like, \u2018Oh, things will come to me\u2019. But now, if I see the vision and it\u2019s really stuck in my mind, I\u2019m gonna go get it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<footer class=\"article-footer\">\n<div
