Greece\u2019s tourism minister tells Euronews Travel.<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--travel js-article-content\">\n<p>Greece may be known primarily as a summer destination, with no end of islands to explore in the warmer months, but the country\u2019s tourism minister wants to change that. <\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-mobile-only\">\n<div tourism. <\/p>\n<p>She hopes it will \u201cbenefit local communities\u201d and will \u201cgive the opportunity for travellers to get to know Greece a little bit more\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Kefalogianni urged visitors to \u201cexperience the authenticity\u201d that Greece has to offer in the mainland, in the \u201cmountainous areas and some lesser-known islands, too\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Her words come as Greece looks set to continue its run of record years for tourism in 2026. There are hundreds of wineries up and down the country, many of which are open to the public. <\/p>\n<p>The tourist board has launched a wine tourism-focused microsite \u2013 winetourismgreece.com \u2013 which helps visitors explore the best wine on offer in the region they\u2019re exploring. <\/p>\n<p>It has also relaunched VisitGreece.gr, which uses AI to offer customised itineraries for those unsure how to plan their own. <\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t know where to start when visiting Greece out of season, Kefalogianni suggests heading to the capital, Athens. <\/p>\n<p>The city, she said, \u201cgives travellers a year-round experience\u201d. It\u2019s particularly popular amongst the younger generations who see Athens \u201cnot just for its cultural offering\u201d but also as a \u201cvibrant, very cosmopolitan and very modern city, with all sorts of events from concerts to sports\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve exhausted all Athens has to offer, Kefalogianni suggests visiting Thessaloniki, the country\u2019s second-largest city, or, if in doubt, go online and see what Greece can provide as a year-round destination away from beachfront tavernas and the warm weather of the summer season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> wants to change that.\u00a0Speaking to Euronews Travel at World Travel Market in London, Olga Kefalogianni says the country is now focused on year-round tourism.\u00a0She hopes it will \u201cbenefit local communities\u201d and will \u201cgive the opportunity for travellers to get to know Greece a little bit more\u201d.Kefalogianni urged visitors to \u201cexperience the authenticity\u201d that Greece has to offer in the mainland, in the \u201cmountainous areas and some lesser-known islands, too\u201d.Her words come as Greece looks set to continue its run of record years for tourism in 2026. For Kefalogianni, however, success in tourism isn\u2019t just down to the number of arrivals or revenue but the \u201cvalue that it creates for the local economies\u201d.\u00a0Going forward, she explained, the tourist board is focusing more than ever on agrotourism, wellness and spa offerings across the country, as well as gastronomic and wine tourism.\u00a0It is also hoping to attract travellers to Greece\u2019s many mountain ranges, including iconic Mount Olympus and Mount Smolikas, the second-highest peak in the country.\u00a0\u201cGreece is associated with its beautiful islands, the beaches that are really amazing with the crystal waters, but it\u2019s also a very mountainous country\u2026 here, in the mountainous areas, you&#8217;re being welcomed by the locals who really are very hospitable and warm,\u201d she said.\u201cThe target for us is of course to have year-round tourism, not just seasonal activity.\u201dFor 2027, Greek wine tourism is set to be big business. There are hundreds of wineries up and down the country, many of which are open to the public.\u00a0The tourist board has launched a wine tourism-focused microsite \u2013 winetourismgreece.com \u2013 which helps visitors explore the best wine on offer in the region they\u2019re exploring.\u00a0It has also relaunched VisitGreece.gr, which uses AI to offer customised itineraries for those unsure how to plan their own.\u00a0If you don\u2019t know where to start when visiting Greece out of season, Kefalogianni suggests heading to the capital, Athens.\u00a0The city, she said, \u201cgives travellers a year-round experience\u201d.
