Japan\u2019s snow forecast keeps Hokkaido at the center of an ongoing cold spell, with repeated snow through Wednesday and powerful weekend winds.<\/strong> Niseko Grand Hirafu now leads the accumulation outlook, while central Honshu looks considerably leaner than previously expected. None of the resorts covered here are currently open for skiing, so the immediate benefit is early base building ahead of winter operations, as reflected in current operating reports<\/a> and season opening schedules<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Snow already falling around Niseko and Kiroro continues through Saturday, November 7, with lighter but persistent showers on Sunday.<\/strong> Guidance strongly supports the cold, windy pattern, although snowfall intensity varies substantially. Hokkaido forecast elevations generally hold between -3\u00b0C and -7\u00b0C during the weekend, with snow levels near sea level for much of the precipitation. Initially dense snow becomes moderately lighter as temperatures fall, but exposed terrain will be heavily affected by wind. Westerly gusts around Niseko and Kiroro could reach roughly 120 km\/h on Saturday, with strong winds continuing into Sunday. Northern Honshu also receives snow, especially around Appi Kogen, while Zao\u2019s smaller, denser additions coincide with potentially damaging mountain gusts approaching 160 km\/h.<\/p>\n

Another pulse of snow has broad support on Monday and Tuesday before the episode tapers through Wednesday, November 11.<\/strong> The timing of individual bursts and their intensity remain less certain than the continuing cold. Remaining snowfall from late Friday through Wednesday favors 27-38 cm<\/span><\/strong> at Niseko Grand Hirafu and 22-31 cm<\/span><\/strong> at Kiroro. Lighter winds early in the week should help snow settle more evenly in sheltered Hokkaido terrain. Compared with our previous outlook<\/a>, matching forecast dates now show reduced snowfall, particularly around Hakuba, Nozawa and Naeba, and Niseko has moved ahead of Kiroro. Central Honshu\u2019s better opportunities remain Saturday and Tuesday, with snow levels mostly around 900 to 1,300 meters during precipitation, initially higher at Okushiga. Expect modest, generally dense mountain additions and limited accumulation at lower elevations.<\/p>\n

    A warmer, mostly dry break becomes the favored pattern from Thursday, November 12, into the following weekend.<\/strong> That transition has stronger support than any substantial follow-on snowfall and would encourage settling and melting of thin lower-elevation cover. Occasional Hokkaido showers remain possible, but they do not currently suggest another widespread accumulation event. A colder, wetter turn may return during the following week, with the more plausible snow signal again favoring northern mountains. Substantial differences in strength and placement keep that outlook preliminary, so the useful focus remains the ongoing episode through Wednesday and how well its early base survives the subsequent warming.<\/p>\n
