A free screening of a film which outlines the impact of climate change both now and in the future will be hosted by Hull City Council.

The National Emergency Briefing, presented by naturalist Chris Packham, will be played at Hull’s Guildhall on 24 November followed by a discussion led by council leader Mike Ross and cabinet member for the environment Charles Quinn.

The council said the event would help people to learn more from experts and understand how the council was “responding to the climate and nature emergency”.

Quinn said: “Hull is susceptible to the impacts of climate change more than most so it is important the council and the city realises the urgency with which we need to act.”

He said: “No prior knowledge on what is happening in Hull is needed and the council looks forward to welcoming residents to learn more and share ideas about what we can all do.”

The council said the 50-minute film would also help people learn how they “can stay resilient, as well as actions they can take as individuals and households to combat the crisis.”

Those attending would get the chance to support the film by signing an open letter for it to be lobbied to government.

The session will be held from 18:30 GMT on Tuesday 24 November in Room C1 in Hull’s Guildhall on Alfred Gelder Street. Doors will open at 18:15.

The council said the event was open to all residents in Hull aged 16 and over, and urged people to register in advance.
