The <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/surface\/updates\/surface-laptop-ultra-update-history\">October 22nd release<\/a> addresses three notable issues in particular: screen flickering, unexpected restarts, and lengthy reboot times alongside unspecified \u201cadditional bug fixes and general performance improvements,\u201d according to Microsoft\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">My colleague Tom Warren experienced some of these issues when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/1012628\/microsoft-surface-laptop-ultra-review\">reviewed the Surface Laptop Ultra<\/a>, finding that rebooting the device was \u201csurprisingly slow\u201d and that \u201cmoving a window around rapidly sometimes left a little trail.\u201d He also ran into some speaker interference issues that were \u201cloud enough to sound like firecrackers\u201d and resolved them upon rebooting the Surface Laptop Ultra, but found that \u201cit\u2019s happened a couple of times now.\u201d We\u2019ve asked Microsoft if this is one of the additional bug fixes included in the update.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">In its announcement, Microsoft says some additional steps \u201cmay be required\u201d for Surface Laptop Ultra users after installing this firmware update:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<blockquote class=\"duet--article--blockquote _1lkuyz82 _1lkuyz80 _19wv7tc9\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz89 _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">We recommend that you restart your Surface to complete any remaining part of the installation. To restart your device, select Start, and then select Power &gt; Restart.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The firmware update will be delivered to all Surface Laptop Ultra devices, but not every device will receive it at the same time. If you don\u2019t want to wait around, you can manually install the update by following the instructions over on <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/surface\/drivers-firmware\/download-drivers-and-firmware-for-surface\">Microsoft\u2019s driver and firmware page<\/a>.
