The Northern Rockies snow forecast brings modest early-week mountain snow, followed by a colder wave favoring northern Idaho and northwest Montana through Thursday.<\/strong> Schweitzer could approach a foot across the two waves, while the Tetons and southwest Montana receive smaller additions. All ten resorts covered here are currently closed for lift-served skiing<\/a>, so the main benefit is building an early-season base.<\/p>\n

Light precipitation develops in central Idaho Monday afternoon, then reaches western Wyoming and southwest Montana Monday night into Tuesday.<\/strong> Guidance broadly agrees on this progression, although precipitation amounts vary enough to favor modest expectations. Snow levels initially near 8,000-8,500 feet in the Tetons fall toward 5,000-6,500 feet overnight, allowing accumulation to spread down the mountains as colder air arrives. Central Idaho snow levels settle near 5,000-6,000 feet, with Brundage favored over Bogus Basin and Sun Valley. The snow starts relatively dense, then becomes moderately dry at higher elevations around the Tetons and Big Sky as temperatures fall into the 20s. Gusts around 25-35 mph will affect exposed snow, with stronger ridge gusts possible. Snow eases Tuesday, with a few showers lingering into Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night through Thursday brings the strongest snowfall opportunity to Schweitzer and Whitefish as a colder disturbance settles into the Northwest.<\/strong> There is strong agreement on accumulating mountain snow, with more uncertainty in intensity and how long showers persist Thursday. Across the full Monday-through-Thursday sequence, Schweitzer should receive 7-12 in<\/span><\/strong>, with most falling Wednesday into Thursday. Snow levels around 5,000 feet Tuesday drop toward 3,000-4,500 feet Wednesday and Thursday, improving accumulation prospects at lower elevations. Temperatures near freezing initially favor dense snow, followed by somewhat drier snow as readings settle into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Gusts near 30 mph around Schweitzer can compact exposed deposits. Farther south, snowfall largely pauses Wednesday, and daytime warming Thursday will favor better preservation on higher, shaded terrain.<\/p>\n
