expensive since 2009, with the average rate on ten-year loans nearing 4.5%, according to broker Interhyp, as inflation fears stoked by the Iran war push up borrowing costs.<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--business js-article-content\">\n<p>Getting a loan to buy a house in Germany now costs more than at any time since the 2009 financial crisis, as worries that the Iran war will keep inflation high and drive up interest rates, Munich-based mortgage broker Interhyp said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-mobile-only\">\n<div class=\"c-ad__placeholder\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" loading=\"lazy\"><span>ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The typical rate on a ten-year loan is now close to 4.5% which is above the previous peak of just over 4.4% reached at the end of 2023, according to the broker.<\/p>\n<p>The average rate on ten-year mortgages has climbed from 3.9% as recently as May, Interhyp CEO J\u00f6rg Utecht stated, citing data.<\/p>\n<p>Interhyp\u2019s latest survey of lenders, published on 15 October, put the ten-year average at about 4.4% but it continues to rise.
