Breezer, the bike brand started by mountain bike pioneer Joe Breeze in the 1970s, is offering bikers a BOGO deal of sorts: Buy one of six bikes in the collection, get a free Repack klunker. The full-price bikes range in price from $1,099.99 to $1,999.99 and include several gravel bikes plus the brand\u2019s hardtail mountain bike, the Thunder. <\/p>\n

The bikes that qualify for the BOGO sale are the Thunder, Radar Team, Radar Pro, Radar Sport, Inversion Cafe, and Inversion Comp. Add one of those bikes to your cart, along with a Breezer Repack, and you\u2019ll get the Repack for $0 (normally $599.99, but on sale for $399.99 by itself) through October 31 while supplies last.<\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t familiar with the Breezer line (we weren\u2019t \u2014 it\u2019s been a while!), here\u2019s an overview of the bikes included in the offer.<\/p>\n

Breezer Thunder 29er hardtail<\/h2>\n

The Breezer Thunder, priced at $1,899.99<\/a>, features a 4130 chromoly steel frame and is available in four sizes. It\u2019s got 130mm of travel up front thanks to a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 fork and a 12-speed Shimano drivetrain. Naturally, the build comes with hydraulic disc brakes and a dropper post. <\/p>\n

The geometry is pretty conservative (a 67.5\u00b0 head tube angle, for example) and it\u2019s heavy (34.5lb for a size large), but it does look<\/em> pretty good. And it\u2019s steel, with plenty of mounts, which a lot of riders like.<\/p>\n

Breezer Radar gravel \/ drop-bar mountain bike<\/h2>\n

Breezer doesn\u2019t use the word \u201cgravel\u201d on the product pages for the Radar<\/a>. Instead, they say it\u2019s a bike for \u201cbikepacking, mountain touring, rough dirt, and off-road exploration.\u201d With clearance for tires up to 29x.2.4\u2033 and the ability to add a 30.9mm diameter dropper post, if anything, this steel bike is a mountain biker\u2019s<\/em> gravel bike.<\/p>\n

The Radar is offered in three different builds, priced from $1,399.99 to $1,999.99. The mid-level \u201cPro\u201d shown above is priced at $1,699.99. The least expensive build, the Sport, comes with flat bars instead of drops. <\/p>\n

Breezer Inversion<\/h2>\n

The Inversion is a more traditional gravel\/mixed-road bike. The Inversion Comp uses drop bars and is priced at $1,299.99, while the Cafe build has flat bars and is just $1,099.99. Like the other bikes, the frame is made with 4130 chromoly steel.<\/p>\n

Free klunker: The throwback Breezer Repack<\/h2>\n

Realistically, few will ride the Breezer Repack on singletrack. It\u2019s a townie bike in the best sense with throwback mountain bike vibes. There\u2019s just one gear, coaster brakes, and knobby WTB Ranger 27.5\u00d72.3\u2033 tires. The classic chormoly steel frame and fork are available in three colorways.<\/p>\n

The Repack gets its name from the informal mountain bike race that kickstarted the whole sport. Known as Repack, the downhill fire-road race got its name because riders typically needed to re-pack the bearings in their coaster-brake hubs after each run. Breezer previously offered a full-suspension bike called the Repack. <\/p>\n

Breezer is the OG mountain bike brand<\/h2>\n

According to the Smithsonian, the JBX1 \u201cBreezer,\u201d built by Joe Breeze in 1977, \u201cwas the first bicycle frame designed specifically for mountain biking.\u201d Though it\u2019s not currently on display, you can see the bike on the museum\u2019s website<\/a>. Breeze and Breezer continued to innovate on mountain bike geometry and frame materials through the 80s and 90s. In 2008, Breeze sold the brand<\/a> to Advanced Sports International (ASI).<\/p>\n

Then, in 2016, ASI purchased US bicycle retailer Performance Bike. Just two years later, in 2018, ASI filed for bankruptcy. The Breezer brand, along with SE Bikes and Fuji, was purchased by Pacific Glory Worldwide. BikeCo now owns and distributes Breezer.<\/p>\n

As for the man himself, Breeze is the curator of the Marin Museum of Bicycling in California. The Museum is also home to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
