Porto was voted Europe&#8217;s friendliest city, with Lisbon second in Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveller readers&#8217; ranking.<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--travel js-article-content\">\n<p>Portugal is often considered one of the most welcoming and hospitable countries in the world, with international studies and surveys repeatedly placing the Portuguese people at the top of tourists\u2019 favourites. It is therefore no surprise that Porto has been awarded the title of &#8220;Europe&#8217;s friendliest city&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-mobile-only\">\n<div class=\"c-ad__placeholder\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt loading=\"lazy\"><span>ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-desktop\">\n<div class=\"c-ad__placeholder\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt loading=\"lazy\"><span>ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The distinction comes from readers of Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveller in the Readers\u2019 Choice Awards 2026, which also place the city of Lisbon in second position in this category.<\/p>\n<p>The vote aims to identify cities where &#8220;hospitality is at its warmest&#8221; and &#8220;you find locals eager to help, whether you\u2019re trying to make sense of a neighbourhood restaurant\u2019s menu or looking confused on the metro&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The recognition now given to the Invicta, as Porto is known, &#8220;reflects the significant rise in Porto\u2019s popularity as the ideal city-break refuge, both for lovers of good food and for culture enthusiasts&#8221;, the magazine explains, also highlighting the city\u2019s authenticity and relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unwind in a stunning square lined with azulejo tiles or share petiscos \u2013 small portions of local delicacies \u2013 with residents in a neighbourhood restaurant,&#8221; Cond\u00e9 Nast encourages, &#8220;and you will quickly realise how generous hospitality has made Porto a destination many of us end up returning to time and time again&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Lisbon appears in the next spot. &#8220;Few European cities are as picturesque as the sun-drenched Portuguese capital, famous for being built on the seven hills that punctuate the banks of the River Tagus&#8221;, the magazine notes, describing it as &#8220;a wonderful city of winding alleys, soulful fado and creamy past\u00e9is de nata&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But what really ties it all together is the people. A youthful, inclusive atmosphere pulses through its steep neighbourhoods, and there are plenty of opportunities for travellers to get involved too.
