It\u2019s fast-paced and unruly, depicting a family of five as they rush through the morning routine. There\u2019s yelling and mess, misplaced keys and discarded eggshells. Apple\u2019s typical vibe is clean, simple, orderly; this commercial is chaos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">But the spot has parents \u2014 those with teen children in particular \u2014 feeling seen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--block-placement _1xorkac1 _1xorkac0 duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<div class=\"ejz0tzd\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">I\u2019ll admit that it stressed me out the first time I watched it, too. Mornings getting my five-year-old out the door are a special breed of chaos, and usually culminate in us playing whatever ad-libbed game will get him to put his shoes on. But it\u2019s not <em>quite<\/em> as intense as this one, which features dad making French toast, mom losing and finding keys in her pocket, a proxy battle over the thermostat, a teenage boy helping himself to whipped cream from a can, and an unexpected video call. There\u2019s also a microdrama about the daughter\u2019s ride to school with a boyfriend nobody knew about that ends with everyone gathered around the HomeView watching the security camera feed of the two of them departing the porch. It\u2019s a lot for just over three minutes of screentime.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">If I know anything, though, I know to trust my colleague Jen Tuohy, senior reviewer and parent to two teens, on matters of the home. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/1009704\/apple-homeview-smart-display-first-look\">Her take?<\/a> \u201cThe most unrealistic part of the video is that no one is holding an iPhone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Other parents of teens shared similar reactions on Threads. When tech analyst Benedict Evans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/share\/E1qAXZSpR\/\">posted about the ad feeling stressful and confusing<\/a>, <em>CNET<\/em> editor at large Bridget Carey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/share\/IKw6Zo077\/\">chimed in to defend it<\/a>, saying \u201cIt was exactly what my morning is like and it was the most real ad I\u2019ve ever seen from Apple.\u201d Others agreed, saying it \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/share\/FCj-fANk_\/\">accurately captured<\/a>\u201d real life and that it \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/share\/F1SJdRg0j\/\">hit home<\/a>,\u201d no pun intended, at least I think.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Even if Apple didn\u2019t need to do much to heighten the stakes of a family getting out the door, there is of course plenty of sleight of hand at work when it comes to making the HomeView appear so essential. The family has seemingly drilled a hole directly into the middle of their kitchen island to accommodate the charging cable, for one. And what sibling is going to check a text message from a secret boyfriend on the communal kitchen screen with their brother sitting at arm\u2019s length? This is a far cry from the quiet luxury lifestyle everyone seems to enjoy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23751675\/apple-vision-pro-vr-headset-ios-17-mental-health-mood-journal\">Apple\u2019s Vision Pro ads<\/a>. There\u2019s also Evans\u2019 observation that the HomeView doesn\u2019t really solve any of the problems that come up throughout the course of the video.
