The <a href=\"https:\/\/mechanism.sjv.io\/c\/482924\/1717169\/19962?u=https%3A%2F%2Fgetmechanism.com%2Fproducts%2Fbasecase-for-nintendo-switch-2\" rel=\"sponsored\">$49 Basecase from Mechanism<\/a> is a snap-on shell for the console that taps into the company\u2019s modular lineup of mounts. You could already mount the Switch 2 in numerous ways with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mechanism-Console-Nintendo-Switch-Accessories-2\/dp\/B0FKD5W68J?tag=theverge02-20\" rel=\"sponsored\">$19 Basegrip<\/a> (to your wall, to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mechanism-Compatible-Experience-Accessories-Ridiculously\/dp\/B0FKD61TQT?tag=theverge02-20\" rel=\"sponsored\">Gaming Pillow<\/a>, to a monitor arm, etc.). The difference is that this new product protects your console, makes its Joy-Con more comfortable to use, and has some interesting modularity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The console shell allows for the full range of the Switch 2\u2019s kickstand, and access to all of the ports, buttons, and fan vents. Notably, it fits more snugly than others I\u2019ve tried because it clamps on near the console\u2019s bottom USB-C port. This is a good thing. You can unlock its rear plate and replace it with a custom 3D-printed version for more fun and\/or more utility. The set includes two sizes that add varying degrees of bulk, both of which make them more comfortable to use. Remove any of the grips, and there\u2019s a spot for a game cartridge. It\u2019s a fun way to bring extra physical games. Mechanism included some extra grip types that aren\u2019t for sale to show what\u2019s possible with a 3D printer. I really liked the pair that has a little shelf on each side to let your middle or ring fingers rest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">You can\u2019t use the Switch 2 in its dock with the Basecase. So, Mechanism includes a dock adapter that takes a different approach \u2014 not necessarily better or worse \u2014 than Dbrand did with its Killswitch. Instead of cradling the Switch 2, it\u2019s simply a female-to-male USB-C cable that you have to maneuver onto the dock\u2019s video-out port. Installing it isn\u2019t quite as easy as its marketing indicates, but I eventually got it working. Dbrand revised its comfy Killswitch grip to add this after some users noted their consoles tumbling to the ground when they grabbed it by the controller without supporting the Switch 2\u2019s weight. I could never quite get the feel for the ones included with Genki\u2019s Attack Vector case (we\u2019ll see how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/humanthings\/genkigrips\/posts\/4790142\">Genki\u2019s upcoming Grips<\/a> fare). Also, while most thin, plastic cases from competitors exhibit ill-fitting sections or flex, the Basecase feels tougher.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _18mzr4ba _19wv7tc1\">If you\u2019re bought into Mechanism\u2019s ecosystem of mounts and have a Switch 2, there\u2019s a good chance that you\u2019ve been waiting for this release (and, perhaps, you already own this case). For gamers who haven\u2019t yet tried out the company\u2019s system of mounts, this is a really good place to start.
