All nine resorts covered here are currently closed for skiing, making this an early base-building event; Eagle Point also faces a fire-related season closure, according to the current winter operating outlook.

Sunday’s ongoing wet and windy pattern continues into Monday before colder air expands mountain snowfall. Tropical moisture supports widespread rain, heavy at times, while snow levels initially sit above much of the ski terrain. Strong southerly winds bring exposed mountain gusts around 40 to 60 mph, with stronger gusts possible in the southern mountains. Monday’s snow levels settle toward 9,000 to 10,000 feet during precipitation, favoring upper elevations while lower terrain remains vulnerable to rain. Any initial accumulation will be very dense and wet. Forecasts differ on exactly when substantial mountain precipitation arrives, but agree more closely on the colder phase that follows.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring the best combination of snowfall, falling snow levels, and improving preservation. Northerly to northwesterly flow favors the Cottonwoods, where Alta leads with 12-19 in through the storm’s final showers. Snow levels fall toward 7,000 to 8,000 feet across northern Utah during the colder precipitation, with temperatures in the upper 20s at the higher Cottonwood forecast elevations. Snow becomes moderately dense rather than especially light, but cooler temperatures and substantially lighter winds improve its ability to accumulate and persist. Park City and Deer Valley receive smaller amounts, while Beaver Mountain and Powder Mountain look closer to a light coating. The southern mountains also accumulate snow, although amounts there carry greater uncertainty. Agreement supports a meaningful mountain snow event through Wednesday, but substantial differences in precipitation intensity keep the upper-end totals less secure.

Snow showers taper Thursday into early Friday, followed by a warmer and mostly dry weekend. The totals below include those lingering showers, with the main accumulation concentrated Monday through Wednesday. Rising temperatures afterward favor settling and melting, especially on lower and sunnier terrain. Beyond the weekend, the broader pattern favors warmth over sustained cold. A possible disturbance around Tuesday, October 20, through Thursday, October 22, could return some mountain precipitation, but forecasts split between a modest event and continued dry weather. That signal remains too uncertain for specific snowfall totals.

Utah Snow Forecast Resort Totals (Sat Oct 10 – Fri Oct 16)

Alta – 12-19 in

Snowbird – 9-14 in

Brighton – 9-14 in

Eagle Point – 7-10 in

Solitude – 6-10 in

Park City – 4-7 in

Deer Valley – 2-3 in

Powder Mountain – 1 in

Beaver Mountain – 0-1 in

Credit: ECMWF Utah’s snow forecast favors a rain-first storm turning colder Monday through Wednesday, with the Cottonwoods positioned for the largest accumulations.
