class=\"c-article-content\">\n<p>The Left MEP Marc Botenga said his group\u2019s proposal to halve MEPs\u2019 salaries would bring them \u201cdown to earth\u201d and make it easier for them to He argues that the way people live \u201cinfluences the way you vote and the kind of proposals you make\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>MEPs currently receive a monthly salary of \u20ac8,800, while The Left\u2019s proposal would reduce it to \u20ac4,400.<\/p>\n<p>Faced with allegations of populism, Botenga argues that the European Parliament is used to discussing \u201canything\u201d. However, when it comes to MEPs\u2019 \u201cown privileges, their own salaries\u201d, he laments that the issue cannot even be discussed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"b-videos-players__tags\">\n<ul
