\u201cHave you ever tried ground cherries?\u201d Pamela Anderson asks me within seconds of getting on our Zoom call. I admit I haven\u2019t \u2014 at least knowingly. <\/p>\n

Neither had the actor<\/a>, activist, and best-selling author until she stumbled upon the fruit in the garden on her family\u2019s Vancouver Island property. \u201cI thought it was a tomatillo, with the little paper baskets around the little tomatoes, and when I tried one, I was like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s not a tomato. That\u2019s a cherry,\u2019\u201d she goes on to explain. \u201cIt\u2019s a really earthy, interesting fruit. So I\u2019ve been obsessed with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

This obsession led to the creation of her Sonsie<\/a> skin care brand\u2019s latest launch, a new flavor of the Basic Balm called Wild Groundcherry. This limited-edition variety plumps and hydrates with peptides and adds a soft, warm golden shimmer to the lips without the use of microplastic-derived glitter. \u201cIt [ground cherry] was something that surprised me in my garden, so when talking about new flavors for the lip balms, I thought, \u2018Everyone likes to be surprised,\u2019 so that\u2019s it,\u201d Anderson<\/a> says. \u201cI wanted a shimmery lip balm that still shows your natural lip color and is made without the microplastics.\u201d<\/p>\n
