They\u2019re not, as they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/10\/1\/24259069\/chromebook-quick-insert-ai-button-samsung-lenovo\">first debuted a couple of years ago<\/a> on some Chromebooks. But there is something new for Googlebooks that\u2019s ripped straight from Android phones circa 2014.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">On every Googlebook keyboard, the F1, F2, and F3 keys are the old triangle, circle, and square navigation icons that first debuted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/11\/12\/7203161\/android-5-0-lollipop-review\">Android 5.0 Lollipop<\/a>. These were the back, home, and app switcher buttons long before everything went to gesture-based navigation, and they\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/android\/answer\/9079644?hl=en\">still built into phones on Android 17<\/a> as an alternative. The back button seems sometimes necessary when using Android apps that aren\u2019t really optimized for a desktop interface or mouse controls. I just wish a second press of the home button brought all your apps back to where they were, but that\u2019s another feature called desktop peeking that uses a different keyboard shortcut.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">If you\u2019re an Android nerd of yore, it\u2019s kind of fun to see these buttons live on.
