According to Amazon spokesperson Claudia Chavira Velez, \u201cWe recently notified the very small number of customers using voice requests to play or pause audio from the aux audio input on select Echo devices that this functionality will no longer be supported.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--block-placement _1xorkac1 _1xorkac0 duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<div class=\"ejz0tzd\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The message does not include any explanation for why the feature was removed. It also doesn\u2019t mention any changes to audio output functionality like connecting an external speaker to an Echo Dot. Amazon\u2019s statement notes that the physical connection still works on the devices that have the port: Echo Plus (2nd gen), Echo (3rd gen), Echo (4th gen), and Echo Studio (1st gen). Owners can control it from within the Alexa app, as well as pair Bluetooth speakers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">As <em>Ars Technica<\/em> points out, it\u2019s been years since Amazon released an Echo speaker with a 3.5mm aux port, and last year, Amazon also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/630049\/amazon-echo-discontinues-do-not-send-voice-recording-setting\">removed an
