Getting There: From Prairies to Peaks<\/b><\/h2>\n

There is a moment on the<\/b> Trans-Canada Highway<\/b><\/a> when the city of Calgary falls away, and the view ahead becomes a wall of limestone and shale.<\/b> Banff National Park<\/span><\/a> is close enough to <\/span>Calgary International Airport<\/span><\/a> to make the trip feel easy, but a few miles into the drive, and you\u2019re in a different world. Years ago, I was behind the wheel of a rented Crown Victoria, driving a group of colleagues to a meeting at the <\/span>Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity<\/span><\/a>. My friend, sitting shotgun, who was from Calgary, nudged my shoulder and said, <\/span>\u201cLook,\u201d <\/span><\/i>glancing at our colleague in the backseat who was visiting western Canada for the first time. In the rearview, I saw an expression of disbelief, held in silence. A snapshot of when the world suddenly becomes much bigger and far more beautiful than you can imagine.
