\n\tBattery life tops out at 15 hours on a single charge, giving it enough staying power to handle the pregame and keep going well after kickoff. JBL also gives the speaker an IPX4 splash-resistant rating, a no-brainer addition for something likely to spend its weekends next to drinks, coolers and a table full of game-day food.<\/p>\n

\n\tThen there are the features that earn it the PartyBox name. A built-in light show synchs with whatever you\u2019re playing and can be customized through the JBL PartyBox app, where you can also adjust the EQ and other settings. Dedicated mic and guitar inputs add karaoke and live music to the equation, should your tailgate unexpectedly turn into something more ambitious.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor larger gatherings, the PartyBox also supports Auracast. The Bluetooth technology lets you pair two Encore Essential 2 speakers for stereo sound or link multiple compatible JBL speakers to a single source. For a tailgate that starts at one car and somehow takes over half the parking lot, that\u2019s arguably more useful than simply turning one speaker up louder.<\/p>\n

The compact wireless speaker offers up to 14 hours of playtime with Playtime Boost, built-in ambient lighting and an IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating. \n\tThe difference really comes down to how much speaker you want to bring with you. The PartyBox Encore Essential 2 is the one for taking over the playlist and supplying sound for the group; the Grip makes more sense when you want something you can grab on the way out the door.
