\n\tWith several of K-pop\u2019s biggest names out of the running \u2014 in addition to BTS, BLACKPINK\u2019s four all-English songs from February\u2019s DEADLINE<\/em> won\u2019t qualify due to the Recording Academy\u2019s rule that nominees \u201cmust feature meaningful use of one or more Asian languages\u201d \u2014 the race is wide open for the potential nominees in the much-discussed new Asian pop performance category\u2019s first year.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Stray Kids\u2019 Korean label JYP Entertainment shared on Friday (Oct. 2) \u2014 one day after Billboard<\/em> first published this story \u2014 that the group did not submit its work for consideration at the forthcoming Grammy Awards, Billboard<\/em> originally highlighted three of its songs as contenders for the category, led by fan-dedicated single \u201cSTAY\u201d released in March. Stray Kids\u2019 U.S. record label (Republic Records) and other representatives did not respond to Billboard<\/em>\u2018s prior inquiries into the group\u2019s submission plans.<\/p>\n

\n\tA genuinely experimental piece that threads flashes of piano, brass and drum\u2019n\u2019bass under Yonezu\u2019s theatrical vocal attack (the 35-year-old is the sole writer, composer, producer, arranger and programmer), the opening theme to Japanese blockbuster Chainsaw Man \u2013 The Movie: Reze Arc<\/em> hit No.\u00a05 on the Billboard Global\u00a0200, the highest peak for a Japanese-language song to date, and spent 14 weeks atop the Japan Hot\u00a0100. \u201cJane Doe,\u201d Yonezu\u2019s duet with J-pop legend and Kingdom Hearts<\/em> singer Hikaru Utada for the film\u2019s closing theme, could be a second strong submission option.<\/p>\n

Miist & Narada Michael Walden, \u201cIt\u2019s Too Late To Love You (Chinese & English Edition)\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\n\tMiist is a Chinese-born former \u00adbookkeeper who reached the top\u00a025 of Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Adult Contemporary chart with this song\u2019s original version; Walden is a three-time Grammy winner and legendary producer known for his work with Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, among others. But on this \u00adpower-pop ballad, the generationally \u00addifferent \u00adartists (Walden also sings) are perfect \u00adcomplements, carrying the same melody in Mandarin and English. Miist has announced this submission and explained her support for the new category in a guest column for Billboard<\/em>.<\/p>\n

SB19, \u201cVisa\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\n\tThe breakout pop act became the first Filipino group to play Lollapalooza this summer, months after \u201cVisa\u201d debuted in the top 10 of Billboard<\/em>\u2018s World Digital Song Sales chart. Written and co-produced by leader Pablo, the percussive track was inspired by visa denials the group faced on its world tour and takes on the obstacles Filipinos confront working and performing abroad (it also name-checks Olivia Rodrigo and Bruno Mars, both of whom have Filipino heritage). Sony Music Philippines confirms the submission.<\/p>\n

Stray Kids, \u201cSTAY\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\n\tEven though Stray Kids is refraining from submitting for 2027, here\u2019s why Billboard<\/em> originally considered the group a contender: While its bigger hits \u201cThis\u00a0& That\u201d and \u201cDo It\u201d would be eligible (they peaked at Nos.\u00a038 and 68 on the Billboard Hot\u00a0100, \u00adrespectively), Stray Kids\u2019 March release, \u201cSTAY,\u201d would\u2019ve been the more moving choice as a Grammy submission. The harmony-heavy track is dedicated to the Stray Kids fandom of the same name \u2014 who\u2019d likely find a win for it especially sweet.<\/p>\n
