With the arrival of October, we\u2019ve reached the purgatory stage of the \u201cwaiting for winter\u201d season.<\/strong> It\u2019s not quite summer. It\u2019s not even autumn for most people yet. The days go by. We relentlessly fret about this year\u2019s El Ni\u00f1o. We try to live in the present moment, but we eventually realize some present moments are just better than other present moments.<\/p>\n

Although your average skier would be ecstatic to have good conditions as early as the December holidays (!), Powderhounds are much too spoiled \u2013 one could even say entitled \u2013 to be content with such mediocrity.<\/strong> While this may seem like an insurmountable emotional struggle, seeing as this year is likely to be among the warmest on record, we can use statistical odds to put ourselves in the best possible position to score early and often.<\/p>\n

This list isn\u2019t about who opens earliest, who makes the most snow, or even who has the most terrain open at such-and-such time. <\/strong>It\u2019s definitely not<\/em> about who gets the earliest opening for the single white-ribbon-of-death marketing ploy. Folks, this is about the perfect combination of weather patterns, altitude, and terrain features that allow some places to go off while the plebs back home are still wrapping Christmas gifts.<\/p>\n
