Disaster has struck Nepal\u2019s Himalayan region once again, as an avalanche has buried 16 people \u2014 mostly climbers and support staff \u2014 at the Himlung Himal base camp in Nepal.<\/strong> The group reached base camp early to help set up operations and ropes ahead of expedition teams. Following heavy precipitation across a broad swath of the region, an immense avalanche buried the camp under 14 feet (4 meters) of debris.<\/p>\n

Rescue operations have recovered the bodies of four of the dead.<\/strong> Rescuers found two on Sunday, September 27, and two more on Monday, September 28, 2026. Meanwhile, rescuers believe 12 more staff remain buried beneath the debris, though operations have paused because of the scale of the required manual digging and ongoing severe weather and mountain conditions. Within hours of the avalanche, a fresh layer of snow already covered the debris.<\/p>\n
