evening for a candlelit procession with Pope Leo XIV, as he brought his four-day visit to France to a close.<\/h2>\n<div class=\"b-videos-players__rest-of-text js-rest-of-text \">\n<div class=\"c-article-content\">\n<p>Holding a <strong>candle and a rosary<\/strong>, the pope walked behind a statue of the Virgin Mary through the sanctuary, describing himself as a \u201cpilgrim among pilgrims\u201d. The prayers were recited in several languages, including French, English, Italian and Spanish, accompanied by the \u201cAve Maria\u201d of Lourdes.<\/p>\n<p>More than <strong>150,000 candles<\/strong> were lit across the sanctuary, creating one of Lourdes\u2019 most recognisable evening ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Leo had celebrated an outdoor Mass attended by around <strong>150,000 people<\/strong>, met French bishops and visited sick and disabled pilgrims. He also held private meetings with survivors of clergy sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p>The visit was the <strong>first official papal state visit to France in 18 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div
