break…Following her headline-dominating wedding this year, Taylor Swift has announced she’s back with a new single, titled ‘Patient Zero’, which will drop on Friday. “I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single “Patient Zero” will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it’s available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours,” Swift wrote on Instagram. Her Instagram bio now reads: “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u,” which ties back to her ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ era. It isn’t confirmed whether the new track is part of a companion piece to her 2025 album or part of a new era, but many are speculating that the song’s title seems to be a reference to Swift being described as “patient zero for emotional contagion” in a 2024 LA Times article. As is Swift’s controversial way, the release of the single on streaming will be joined by three separate CDs with different covers for the track’s standard, acoustic, and piano versions.Quite why those three versions couldn’t be generously compiled onto one single release for avid fans who will have to shell out for three different versions remains baffling… but, baby, that’s tires0me capitalism aimed at miking fans f0r m0re m0ney f0r y0u. One main sticking point for some fans is the cover art for ‘Patient Zero’…Shortly after Swift’s post went viral online, it was hit with criticism from social media users who called out what they deemed to be “excessive photo editing” and a Photoshop fail.“The Photoshop on Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” cover is horrendous… girl, you’re a billionaire, please get a professional photographer,” one person wrote on X, while another posted: “I’m so sorry but why does the side of her look so poorly edited? It looks way over-airbrushed and almost AI”. “No shade, but they edited her armpit to HELL,” another scoffed. Check out some reactions below: Swift’s last album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, came out in October 2025. In Euronews Culture’s review, we wrote that the album “doesn’t live up to the frequently exhausting fanfare” and that while “her work ethic isn’t inspiring – and doesn’t seem to be entirely human (…) with playful but uninspired lyrics like “Please God, bring me a best friend who I think is hot”, a sabbatical is needed.” Read the full review here.In June, Swift returned to her country roots with the release of ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, a track that appeared on the soundtrack of Toy Story 5. On Sunday, the 14-time Grammy winner will receive the Inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, which will make her the most awarded artist in the award show’s history.

[analyse_source url=”https://www.euronews.com/2026/09/23/taylor-swift-announces-new-single-patient-zero-and-faces-backlash-for-cover-art”]

[analyse_image type=”featured” src=”https://images.euronews.com/articles/stories/09/92/45/15/1200x675_cmsv2_f873a39c-2433-545c-87af-1c3ce6643258-9924515.jpg”] Economy Higher fuel bills are costing the EU €270 million a day, report says Syria Al-Sharaa vows Golan Heights will remain Syrian in UN speech Europe News EU Commission poised to back Albania’s 2027 accession deadline Europe News Trump’s Russia tariffs could threaten to deepen Europe’s LNG squeeze Economy Higher fuel bills […]

[90
226,36
post-2159841","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-international","tag-crawlmanager","tag-euronews-com
["GET
