Austria, alongside the Netherlands, Iceland, Ireland and Slovenia, in protest against Israel\u2019s participation.<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--culture js-article-content\">\n<p>The head of Spain\u2019s public broadcaster RTVE says he supports Spain continuing to boycott this year&#8217;s Eurovision contest over Israel\u2019s loading=\"lazy\"><span>ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>RTVE president Jos\u00e9 Pablo L\u00f3pez said it was \u201cdeeply painful\u201d that Israel\u2019s public broadcaster remained eligible to compete while the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continued.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f3pez said he would ask the board of RTVE to uphold Spain\u2019s departure from Eurovision, with a final decision expected by mid-October.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f3pez told a Senate committee on Tuesday that it was &#8220;deeply painful&#8221; that Israel&#8217;s public broadcaster would continue to participate in Eurovision &#8220;despite everything, and given this situation that is still being experienced in Gaza.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s withdrawal would be more significant as one of Eurovision\u2019s \u201cBig Five\u201d, the group of countries that make the largest financial contributions to the European Broadcasting Union and therefore automatically qualify for the final.<\/p>\n<div due to be held in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish broadcaster RT\u00c9 said in a statement: &#8220;RT\u00c9 feels that Ireland&#8217;s participation cannot be justified given the \u2060appalling and ongoing loss \u2060of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there which continues to \u200cput the lives of so many civilians at risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"widget widget--type-image longer consistent with &#8220;trustworthiness, independence and humanity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Both Ireland and the Netherlands were among the <strong>five countries who decided to opt out of the 2026
