Airlines and Vueling in individual categories, but Europe struggled to match the haul of awards picked up by carriers from Asia and the Middle East<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--travel js-article-content\">\n<p>European airlines have been largely pushed down the pecking order in this year\u2019s World Airline Awards, with Asian and Middle Eastern carriers dominating the top 10.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-mobile-only\">\n<div class=\"c-ad__placeholder\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt loading=\"lazy\"><span>ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Singapore Airlines took the overall title, followed by Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific, while Turkish Airlines was the highest-ranked European carrier in fifth place. <\/p>\n<p>Just six European airlines made the top 20, with Air France, Lufthansa, Iberia, Virgin Atlantic and Swiss International Air Lines joining Turkish Airlines.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 World Airline Awards were announced at a gala ceremony in London hosted by air transport rating organisation Skytrax. <\/p>\n<p>Known as \u201cthe Oscars of the aviation industry\u201d, the awards have been running since 1999 and, according to Skytrax\u2019s CEO Edward Plaisted, \u201chighlights the level of product and service excellence they are providing to customers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 airlines were assessed in the ranking and, although Europe\u2019s operators didn\u2019t blow the competition away in the main category, they did have a some categories \u2013 and fall down in others<\/h3>\n<p>Air France did particularly well, scooping awards for the world\u2019s best first class, the world\u2019s best first class lounge dining, and the world\u2019s best first class comfort amenities, as well as being given the nod as the best airline in Western Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish-headquartered Vueling won the award for the best low-cost airline in Europe, a category which also saw the inclusion of Germany\u2019s Eurowings, Spain\u2019s Iberia Express and Volotea and Dutch Transavia. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines took a trio and Middle Eastern carriers dominating the top 10.Singapore Airlines took the overall title, followed by Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific, while Turkish Airlines was the highest-ranked European Airline Awards were announced at a gala ceremony in London hosted by air transport rating organisation Skytrax.\u00a0Known as \u201cthe Oscars of the aviation industry\u201d, the awards have been running since 1999 and, according to Skytrax\u2019s CEO Edward Plaisted, \u201chighlights the level of product and service excellence they are providing to customers\u201d.More than 300 airlines were assessed in the ranking and, although Europe\u2019s operators didn\u2019t blow the competition away in the main category, they did have a decent showing in others.\u00a0European airlines triumph in some categories \u2013 and fall down in others\u00a0Air France did particularly well, scooping awards for the world\u2019s best first class, the world\u2019s best first class lounge dining, and the world\u2019s best first class comfort amenities, as well as being given the nod as the best airline in Western Europe.Spanish-headquartered Vueling won the award for the best low-cost airline in Europe, a category which also saw the inclusion of Germany\u2019s Eurowings, Spain\u2019s Iberia Express and Volotea and Dutch Transavia.\u00a0Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines took a trio of awards, scooping gongs for the best airline in Europe, the world\u2019s best business class catering and the best airline in Southern Europe.\u00a0\u201cBeing recognised as \u2018Europe\u2019s best airline\u2019 for the 11th time and ranking first in two other categories is a great source of pride for us as the Turkish Airlines family,\u201d Murat \u015eeker, Turkish Airlines chairman of the board, said.\u00a0In other categories, Iberia won the award for the best airline staff service in Europe, while LOT Polish Airlines received the award as the best airline in Central Europe.\u00a0All European airlines were absent from the world\u2019s best cabin crew category, which was topped by Cathay Pacific Airways, and only Greece\u2019s Aegean Airlines made the top 10 of the world\u2019s best regional airlines category, coming in fourth place.\u00a0Qatar Airways loses its top spotIn the overall ranking, Qatar Airways, a nine-time winner of the world\u2019s best airline title, dropped to second spot behind Singapore Airlines.Nevertheless, the Doha-based operator did manage to scoop four top awards, including the world\u2019s best business class airline \u2013 the 13th time the airline has received this accolade \u2013 and the best airline in the Middle East.\u00a0It also received the first-ever award for the World\u2019s Best Onboard Wi-Fi.
