Insomniac has released an update for Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/a> that nerfs the \u201cfart gas\u201d that had become such a talking point even before the game\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

The debate around this was rekindled following the publication of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine reviews earlier this month, with The Washington Post journalist Gene Park calling the scent trail \u201cfart gas\u201d because of the way it appears behind characters Logan follows.<\/p>\n

Jean Grey\u2019s fart gas trail is NOT part of the navigation assist option. i turned it on and there\u2019s another green line that tells you where to go. mission waypoint (yellow marker) is on as well and THAT can be turned off.<\/p>\n

There was some confusion online about the ability to turn this feature off via accessibility options. Insomniac\u2019s official list of accessibility options for Wolverine<\/u><\/a> includes a \u201cChase Assist,\u201d which lets you toggle reduced movement speed for targets during chase sequences, but it does not turn off the trail. Other navigation toggles do not turn off the scent trail either.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Wolverine\u2019s release, Insomniac\u2019s director of community and marketing, James Stevenson, took to social media<\/u><\/a> to explain that Logan’s scent trail is baked into the way the mutant’s powers work.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scent trail isn\u2019t always on,\u201d he clarified. \u201cIt represents Logan\u2019s canon mutant super senses and elite tracking ability. It only is there when he\u2019s tracking a specific scent \/ sound (a person, whisky, or another clue scent) – story\/mission moments or when he catches whiff of a collectible.\u201d<\/p>\n
