It drove nicely, came with a range of economical engines, wasn\u2019t an SUV, and also wasn\u2019t a Nissan Pulsar. On balance, solid effort from Renault.<\/p>\n<p>But FOTC hasn\u2019t stayed in business by embracing wishy washy concepts like \u2018in the main\u2019 or \u2018on balance\u2019. FOTC is petty and vindictive, and will remain so until someone finally makes one of those libel accusations stick.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 klJNAL\">\n<p>The problem, then, with the MkIV Megane? That rear light signature: the meandering, glowing red strip stretching the width of its posterior. No doubt the designers intended this sweeping light motif to evoke, say, the silhouette of a majestic eagle in flight. Or perhaps the sturdy horns of an African buffalo. This was not the effect they achieved.<\/p>\n<p>Because follow a Megane down the road at night, and all FOTC can think (and all you, too, will think after reading this sentence, sorry about that) is&#8230; bingo wings. You know the \u2013 how to put this? \u2013 dangly underarm sagginess suffered by those of a certain age? Those.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 klJNAL\">\n<p>Not that there\u2019s anything wrong with bingo wings. But FOTC suspects that wasn\u2019t the vibe Renault designers were gunning for here. Vibes like \u2018taut\u2019 and \u2018lithe\u2019 and \u2018fighter jet\u2019? Designers like those. Vibes like \u2018droopy\u2019 and \u2018dangly\u2019 and \u2018lightly atrophied\u2019?
