The piece, titled\u00a0<em>Blue Sea Sky<\/em>\u00a0(2026), marks the artist\u2019s latest installment in his renowned \u201cGanzfeld\u201d\u00a0series (1976\u2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the last five decades, Turrell has been making works inspired by the <em>ganzfeld<\/em> effect (German for \u201ccomplete field\u201d), a phenomenon that flattens depth perception through a uniform or unstructured stimulation field. Inspired by both flying as a pilot since age 16 and an interest in perceptual psychology, the works in Turrell\u2019s ongoing series typically color otherwise ordinary spaces in rich hues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe changing colors in <em>Blue Sea Sky<\/em> draw inspiration from its surroundings, including the blue ocean waters, green palm fronds, orange sunsets, and pink Art Deco neon facades. It replaces another Turrell piece, <em>AKHU<\/em>\u00a0(2021), from the same series, which the artist had loaned the museum upon its May 2021 opening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201c<em>Blue Sea Sky<\/em>\u00a0brings people together in a shared experience of immersion in pure color, pushing the limits of human perception,\u201d said Superblue cofounder and chief curator\u00a0Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst\u00a0in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s difficult to speak about Turrell without including one of his own wonderful quotes.
