a year, Mark Cuban went from declaring himself on \u201cTeam Ballmer\u201d to congratulating journalist Pablo Torre.<\/p>\n<p>Torre spent the last year investigating the LA Clippers for salary-cap circumvention, and on Wednesday, the NBA handed the franchise and owner Steve Ballmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7513882\/2026\/09\/02\/clippers-kawhi-leonard-punishment-fine-suspensions-nba-investigation\/\">the largest punishment in league history<\/a> for funneling Mavericks owner, took to social media to commend Torre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mcuban\/status\/2095250853112463717\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Congrats Pablo<\/a>,\u201d Cuban wrote above an embedded post detailing the penalties for the Clippers, Ballmer and Leonard.<\/p>\n<p>The NBA suspended Ballmer for one year, fined the Clippers $30 million, revoked the franchise\u2019s first-round picks from 2029 through 2033 and ordered Leonard to pay the league back $700,000.<\/p>\n<div data-ath-video-stream=\"6cLwrbBE8PGZJTx\">\n<div when Leonard, then a free agent, and his uncle and former business manager, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7560525\/2026\/09\/02\/dennis-robertson-clippers-investigation-punishment-kawhi-leonard-deals\/\">Dennis Robertson<\/a>, \u201cviolated the circumvention rules by pressuring the Clippers to assist him in obtaining off-court income opportunities, successfully obtaining those opportunities, and failing to reimburse payments by the Clippers for personal expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The investigation stemmed from a Sept. 3, 2025, episode of the podcast \u201cPablo Torre Finds Out,\u201d which reported that Leonard accepted a $28 million no-show contract Cuban questioned Torre\u2019s sourcing before Torre provided documents detailing payments made to Leonard.
