The winning projects range from a floating food forest on a barge by Mary Mattingly to a nomadic dome for the exchange of Somali ancestral knowledge and contemporary art. In a statement, cofounder Wendy Olsoff described Hollis as an \u201cintegral part\u201d of the gallery who is \u201can exceptional manager who understands the many complexities of running a gallery.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n Galer\u00eda RGR Now Represents C\u00e9sar Paternosto: <\/strong>The Mexico City gallery will present its first exhibition with the artist this week as part of GAMA Week. Since the late 1960s, Paternosto has been working in abstraction, producing works in which he paints the front of the canvas white and adds abstract marks on its sides.<\/p>\n Guillermo Garc\u00eda Cruz Joins the Roster of Proyectos Monclova Gallery: <\/strong>Based between Miami and Budapest, the Uruguayan artist draws on the histories of Concrete Art and Constructivism to create his abstractions. His solo exhibition opening this week at Proyectos Monclova will be his first in Mexico City.\u00a0<\/p>\n Kotaro Nukaga Takes on Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka: <\/strong>The artist was featured in the 2019 Toronto Biennial of Art and is currently included in this year\u2019s Venice Biennale. Her prints, sculptures, and installations \u201crespond to questions of climate change, mental health, and survival,\u201d per a release. The Tokyo gallery first showed the artist\u2019s work in March in a two-person exhibition.<\/p>\n Philadelphia Museum of Art Makes Two Hires in Modern and Contemporary Art Department: <\/strong>Joanna Robotham, who is currently curator of modern and contemporary art at the Tampa Museum of Art in Florida, will be the new John Alchin and Hal Marryatt Curator of Contemporary Art, while Colm Peare, previously an assistant curator at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, will be assistant curator of modern and contemporary art.<\/p>\n \n\tThat\u2019s the pre-sale estimate for Wassily Kandinsky\u2019s Das bunte Leben\u00a0<\/em>(The Colorful Life<\/em>, 1907), which will hit the block at Christie\u2019s London on October 14. The work was restituted in 2023 to the heirs of Albert Lewenstein and Hedwig Lewenstein-Weyermann, who had loaned it to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam for safekeeping prior to fleeing the Netherlands ahead of the country\u2019s Nazi occupation. It was sold at auction in 1940 by the Nazis; the Bavarian State Bank purchased the painting in 1972 and loaned it to the Lenbachhaus in Munich.<\/p>\n \n\tIn a lengthy New Yorker <\/em>profile, writer Laura Preston notes that Susan Te Kahurangi King may be New Zealand\u2019s \u201cgreatest living artist.\u201d\u00a0 KAWS, who has long been collecting King\u2019s work, described her work as \u201csome of the best drawings. Period.\u201d It might also surprise some readers that King, who was born in 1951 and does not speak, read, or write, made some of her earliest mature works in the late 1950s and \u201960s, when she was a child. Working from the remote town of Te Aroha, King\u2019s work from the period has drawn comparisons to Pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Peter Saul, though it\u2019s unlikely she knew of their work. Preston goes into great detail of King\u2019s journey of an artist, from her upbringing and her 16-year break from artmaking to her return to drawing.
