Billed as \u201can ambivalent ode to the nostalgic pull of commercial jingles, proprietary start-up sounds, and long-forgotten audio logos,\u201d the Australian band\u2019s fourth album will hopefully right that wrong. It features the likes of Karen O, Jamie xx, Jessy Lanza and Nikki Nair, and spans a whopping 31 tracks. And like some of previously mentioned artists on this list, Mark Oliver \u201cE\u201d Everett needs a proper comeback this year, as he hasn\u2019t had the greatest of runs of late. \u2018The Deconstruction\u2019 (2018) fell short compared to previous discography standouts; \u2018Earth To Dora\u2019 (2020) was too far familiar for comfort; \u2018Extreme Witchcraft\u2019 (2022) was a dreary affair; and \u2018Eels Time!\u2019 (2024) barely registered. We\u2019re rooting for E, as he\u2019s given us some of the greatest storytelling gems over the years, and \u2018Cookie Happened\u2019 could very well be a return to past form. Already on the plus side: the Sesame Street character Cookie Monster is an influence on the album. Her sophomore effort features collaborators like Mary Weitz and Lucy Dacus, and the first cut <strong>\u2018One Song Away From Crying\u2019<\/strong> suggests she\u2019s moving away from the guitars and embracing synths a bit more. The song explores that all-too-familiar moment on the dancefloor when you\u2019ve \u201cnever looked better\u201d but \u201cnever felt worse\u201d. It sounds fantastic so far, and it\u2019s worth noting that Chinouriri is currently touring Europe, with September dates in Dublin, London, Brussels, Paris and Berlin. They\u2019ve been going from strength to strength ever since their 2019 debut \u2018Dogrel\u2019 and <strong>2024\u2019s \u2018Romance\u2019 felt like a consecration<\/strong>. There\u2019s no suggestion that the Irish indie heroes won\u2019t continue their winning streak with fifth LP, \u2018Dopamine Chamber\u2019, which should once again cement their status as the most consistently exciting band around. They\u2019ve already premiered new tracks \u2018Marianne\u2019 and \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019 live. Spoiler: they\u2019re both brilliant, sounding Depeche Mode-ish and very synth noir. With the British poet and folk musician\u2019s 1972 album \u2018Crying Laughing Loving Lying\u2019 gradually becoming recognised as the masterpiece it is, 2026 brought some surprising news: the 80-year-old artist is returning with a new album appropriately titled \u2018Unfinished Business\u2019. It will be his first LP in 28 years and we\u2019ve already had a taster with the gorgeous piano ballad <strong>\u2018Far Away\u2019<\/strong>. We\u2019ve been fans of the Danish singer-songwriter here at Euronews Culture for a while now &#8211; even including her 2016 album \u2018Citizen Of Glass\u2019 in our list of\u00a0the Best European Albums of the 21st Century. Her immersive\u00a0chamber-pop never fails to captivate, and judging by her textured new single \u2018Laymelli\u2019, we\u2019re in for an atmospheric treat with her latest \u2013 one reportedly inspired by themes of maternity and metamorphosis, as well as the ideas of philosophers Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia. Listen to \u2018Laymelli\u2019 and try telling us you\u2019re not already entranced.M83 \u2013 I Wrote You A Letter \u00a0Release date: 25 September\u00a0Is this the year French outfit M83 remind the electro scene they\u2019ve still got it? Here\u2019s hoping&#8230; Anthony Gonzalez\u2019s 10th studio album follows a string of disappointing releases, including the aptly named &#8216;Junk&#8217; (2016), the very average &#8216;DSVII&#8217; (2019), and slightly course-correcting but hardly exhilarating \u2018Fantasy\u2019 (2023). In fact, it\u2019s no stretch to say that M83 haven\u2019t had a fully energising release since 2011\u2019s \u2018Hurry Up, We\u2019re Dreaming\u2019, and many fans still miss the glory days of the early 2000s with the back-to-back triumphs of \u2018Dead Cities, Red Seas &amp; Lost Ghosts\u2019 and \u2018Before The Dawn Heals Us\u2019. Fingers crossed that the titular letter brings good news.Soft Cell \u2013 Danceteria\u00a0Release date: 25 September\u00a0Legendary British synth-pop duo Soft Cell are about to release their swansong, following the death of co-founder Dave Ball last year. The\u00a0band\u2019s\u00a0sixth and final studio album, \u2018Danceteria\u2019, was completed before Ball\u2019s death and will hopefully serve as a fitting tribute. \u201cThere can be no more recordings of Soft Cell without Dave, it would not be possible,\u201d said singer Marc Almond. \u201cThe sad reality is that Dave Ball was half of Soft Cell, and live work aside, I can&#8217;t write Soft Cell songs without him.&#8221; Considering the title and the already released singles, it\u2019s fair to say that this album will channel the spirit of the 80s New York club scene \u2013 much like Madonna\u2019s latest record.The Avalanches \u2013 No Bad Memories \u00a0Release date: 16 October\u00a0Fans of plunderphonic geniuses The Avalanches had to wait 16 long years after the seminal \u2018Since I Left You\u2019 for a decent follow-up album. &#8216;Wildflower&#8217; (2016) was a playful and welcome return, but didn\u2019t strike the same winning chord; and you\u2019d be forgiven for not knowing a third album followed, as 2020\u2019s slightly underrated \u2018We Will Always Love You\u2019 didn\u2019t make too much of a splash. Billed as \u201can ambivalent ode to the nostalgic pull of commercial jingles, proprietary start-up sounds, and long-forgotten audio logos,\u201d the Australian band\u2019s fourth album will hopefully right that wrong. It features the likes of Karen O, Jamie xx, Jessy Lanza and Nikki Nair, and spans a whopping 31 tracks. So they\u2019re not messing about.Eels \u2013 Cookie Happened \u00a0Release date: 16 October\u00a0For more than a decade, like clockwork, we get a new Eels album every two years. And like some\u00a0of previously mentioned artists on this list, Mark Oliver \u201cE\u201d Everett needs a proper comeback this year, as he hasn\u2019t had the greatest of runs of late. \u2018The Deconstruction\u2019 (2018) fell short compared to previous\u00a0discography\u00a0standouts; \u2018Earth To Dora\u2019 (2020) was too far familiar for comfort; \u2018Extreme Witchcraft\u2019 (2022) was a dreary affair; and \u2018Eels Time!\u2019 (2024) barely registered. We\u2019re rooting for E, as he\u2019s given us some of the greatest storytelling gems over the years, and \u2018Cookie Happened\u2019 could very well be a return to past form. Already on the plus side: the Sesame Street character Cookie Monster is an influence on the album. That, and the cover\u2019s all kinds of fun.Rachel Chinouriri \u2013 I Think I Spoke Too Soon \u00a0Release date: 16 October\u00a0English singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri follows her critically acclaimed alt-indie pop debut album \u2018What A Devastating Turn Of Events\u2019 (2024) with \u2018I Think I Spoke Too Soon\u2019. Her sophomore effort features collaborators like Mary Weitz and Lucy Dacus, and the first cut \u2018One Song Away From Crying\u2019 suggests she\u2019s moving away from the guitars and embracing synths a bit more. The song explores that all-too-familiar moment on the dancefloor when you\u2019ve \u201cnever looked better\u201d but \u201cnever felt worse\u201d. It sounds fantastic so far, and it\u2019s worth noting that Chinouriri is currently touring Europe, with September dates in Dublin, London, Brussels, Paris and Berlin. If you can get your hands on a ticket, consider yourself very lucky indeed.Fontaines D.C. \u2013 Dopamine Chamber \u00a0Release date: 16 October\u00a0Talk about a busy day in October for new releases&#8230; and this one is hands down our most anticipated of the lot. Every single Fontaines D.C. album release has marked leaps and bounds in terms of songwriting and sound evolution. They\u2019ve been going from strength to strength ever since their 2019 debut \u2018Dogrel\u2019 and 2024\u2019s \u2018Romance\u2019 felt like a consecration. There\u2019s no suggestion that the Irish\u00a0indie heroes won\u2019t continue their winning streak with fifth LP,\u00a0\u2018Dopamine Chamber\u2019,\u00a0which should once again cement their status as the most consistently exciting band around. They\u2019ve already premiered new tracks \u2018Marianne\u2019 and \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019 live. Spoiler: they\u2019re both brilliant, sounding Depeche Mode-ish and very synth noir. Let\u2019s hope the rest of the album tracklist will stimulate the reward system in the same way.Editors \u2013 Surface, Echo &amp;\u00a0Sound \u00a0Release date: 30 October\u00a0Sounding similar\u00a0to Foo Fighters\u2019 \u2018Echoes, Silence, Patience &amp; Grace\u2019, the title of Editors\u2019 eighth studio album could signal a return to a rawer and rockier sound. Following the disappointing new wave \/\u00a0indietronica \u2018EBM\u2019 in 2022, the band apparently wanted to come back to a more natural approach with regards to\u00a0songwriting and recording, harking back to their early days. Music to our ears, and fans will doubtlessly be delighted if \u2018Surface, Echo &amp; Sound\u2019 recalls the sound of their pretty much flawless original album\u00a0run, with\u00a0\u2018The Back Room\u2019, \u2018An End Has A Start\u2019 and \u2018In This Light And On This Evening\u2019 having made them one of the rare British bands to escape the dreaded Indie Landfill era of the 2000s.Queens of the Stone Age \u2013 Perfecth \u00a0Release date: 30 October\u00a0&#8220;Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be &#8216;perfecth&#8217;,&#8221; according to Queens of the Stone Age\u00a0frontman Josh Homme. &#8220;And that title is funny when you&#8217;re in a group, but it ain&#8217;t so funny when you&#8217;re alone.&#8221; Prefaced by the songs\u00a0\u2018Easy Street\u2019 and \u2018Insignificant Other\u2019, QOTSA\u2019s ninth studio album promises to be a nine-track rock opus dealing with \u201cfamily, friends, and others both significant and insignificant\u201d. So far, it sounds like a departure from the band\u2019s heavier sound, with the acoustic ballad \u2018Easy Street\u2019 still maintaining some of their trademark humour but showcasing\u00a0a much gentler side, while \u2018Insignificant Other\u2019\u00a0features a sleazy groove but couldn\u2019t be more different from the sledgehammer blows of past glories found on \u2018Songs For The Deaf\u2019 and \u2018&#8230;Like Clockwork\u2019.La Roux &#8211; Old Flames \u00a0Release date: 6 November\u00a0We haven\u2019t had a new release from the British synth-pop act formed by singer Elly Jackson since 2020. That third album, \u2018Supervision\u2019, was a frustrating follow-up to her charting debut \u2018La Roux\u2019 (2009) and \u2018Trouble In Paradise\u2019 (2014). The \u2018In For The Kill\u2019 and \u2018Bulletproof\u2019 singer will hopefully wow fans once again, with a new album in which she addresses the collapse of a relationship and tackles themes of forbidden love and the loneliness that comes from addiction. The first album teaser, the R&amp;B-tinged earworm \u2018Cabin Fever\u2019, is excellent and there\u2019s every chance La Roux\u2019s upcoming LP will be the late-year pop surprise we\u2019ve been waiting for.Los Bitchos \u2013 Los Bitchos &amp; Friends Vol. 1 \u00a0Release date: 13 November\u00a0Pan-continental\u00a0instrumental group Los Bitchos have already given us two stellar albums (\u2018Let The Festivities Begin\u2019 and \u2018Talkie Talkie\u2019), which have led them to open for various acts like Belle &amp; Sebastian, King Gizzard &amp; The Lizard Wizard, Parquet Courts and Wet Leg. Now, the trio consisting of guitarist Serra Petale, bassist Josefine Jonsson, and drummer Nic Crawshaw,\u00a0will continue their\u00a0rave-reviewed\u00a0blend of Cumbia, rock-pop and Latin American rhythms in their third long-form project. But there&#8217;s news: they&#8217;re welcoming vocal collaborators. Gasp! (Although the title was a bit of a giveaway.) For a band who\u2019ve never seen vocals as a necessity, this new direction could add a new dimension to their work, with King Gizzard\u2019s Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Black Pumas\u2019 Adrian Quesada and Kit Sebastian all lending their voices. November seems like a long way away considering how promising this sounds&#8230;Labi Siffre \u2013 Unfinished Business\u00a0Release date: TBD\u00a0As we noted in our selection of the Most Underrated Albums, there\u2019s been renewed interest in Labi Siffre\u2019s music, chiefly due to some of his songs appearing in films like The Holdovers and Sentimental Value. With the British poet and folk musician\u2019s\u00a01972 album \u2018Crying Laughing Loving Lying\u2019 gradually becoming recognised as the masterpiece it is, 2026 brought some surprising news: the 80-year-old artist is returning with a\u00a0new album appropriately titled \u2018Unfinished Business\u2019. It will be his first LP in 28 years and we\u2019ve already had a taster with the gorgeous\u00a0piano ballad \u2018Far Away\u2019. This is one comeback you won\u2019t want to miss, and we\u2019re waiting (somewhat impatiently) for a release date. In the meantime, we\u2019ll be listening to \u2018Crying Laughing Loving Lying\u2019 all over again, as well as his last record to date, the 1998 spoken-word poetry collection \u2018Monument\u2019, which is also well worth your time.There we have it.
