The crash \u2013 which was thought to have occurred at more than 60kph \u2013 left Poga\u010dar with a fractured collarbone, C7 vertebra, and a concussion.<\/p>\n<h2>Poga\u010dar \u2018doing well\u2019 while waiting on surgery<\/h2>\n<p>Despite all that, Poga\u010dar put a brave face on it when he issued his first public update on Instagram on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Stayin\u2019 Alive<\/em>,\u201d as he defiantly suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Gianetti told <em>RMC<\/em> the 27-year-old remains upbeat while he waits in limbo at a hospital in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTadej is doing well given the situation he is in,\u201d Gianetti said Sunday night. \u201cTo abandon the Vuelta at a time when you don\u2019t expect it is a violent shock.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe suffered a pretty significant concussion, but today [<em>i.e., Sunday<\/em>] he\u2019s doing well. (Photo: Gruber Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Gianetti\u2019s update to <em>RMC<\/em> comes as the cycling world wonders what\u2019s next for the greatest rider of the current era, if not ever.<\/p>\n<p>After Poga\u010dar won a record-equaling fifth Tour de France in July, the Vuelta was the next tasty morsel on the modern cannibal\u2019s plate.<\/p>\n<p>The world championship road race \u2013 and the chance to follow Peter Sagan with a rainbow jersey three-peat \u2013 was next on the menu.<\/p>\n<p>The Montr\u00e9al champs on September 26 was scheduled as the first of a heavyweight trio of one-day races to close Poga\u010dar\u2019s already blockbuster season. The European championships and Il Lombardia completed the trifecta.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking Sunday, Gianetti refused to rule out Poga\u010dar returning to racing as soon as the Canadian worlds, less than four weeks from now.
