shared his thoughts on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>\u2019s physical collapse during the great Serb\u2019s shock opening round defeat at the 2026 US Open.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic was beaten 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 by world No 49 Mariano Navone in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday evening in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-time Grand Slam champion received treatment as his body appeared to break down, while he was also sick in a bin on court.<\/p>\n<p>The four-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\">US Open<\/a> champion was brought to tears when he was trailing 1-3 in the fifth set.<\/p>\n<p>In his press conference, Djokovic said: \u201cI think it was obvious that it was an awful feeling for me on the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something that I\u2019ve been carrying, unfortunately, pretty much every match this year: vomiting, throwing up, a serious issue there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen my whole body starts to collapse, cramping and pain. His body simply gave out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe threw up, it looked like there were some cramps, it looked like his back, hip, something\u2026 gave out, as well. He\u2019s 39. His body gave out tonight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s natural to think every time he plays a Slam \u2014 it\u2019s the end of the year \u2014 is that it? We don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2003 US Open champion continued:\u00a0\u201cHe\u2019s the best at navigating matches and pacing matches, maybe that I\u2019ve ever seen, outside of Pete Sampras.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe look on his face in the fifth set wasn\u2019t one of me against the world. There was no chip on his shoulder, at least from what I\u2019m watching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looked like he was deep in thought, and there were times where you felt like he was almost emotionally gonna break, but not out of anger, but out of\u2026 you don\u2019t know if it\u2019s gratitude, sadness for gratitude. Whatever it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen, maybe he gets his body right in Australia. Maybe he doesn\u2019t. We don\u2019t know. I\u2019m assuming he doesn\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe story is gonna be: what now for Novak? And I don\u2019t think we know. I think every time he walks off the court at a Grand Slam right now, it\u2019s okay to wonder if it\u2019ll be the last time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think there\u2019s a difference between wondering if it\u2019ll be his last time, and being a dumbass on Twitter saying, \u2018he should retire.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShut up. He can make that decision. He\u2019s in on his own entry. He\u2019s made the semis more often than not recently. We don\u2019t get a say in it.
