P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">Unfortunately, the conversation has already become tangled up with former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom&#8217;s far more provocative decision to announce his own \u2018intention\u2019 to enter the draft.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ue-c-article__subheadline\">Julie Tetart&#8217;s WNBA ambition sparks huge debate<\/h2>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">Reaction online was immediate after reports of <strong>Tetart&#8217;s possible declaration<\/strong> emerged.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">&#8220;Julie Tetart vs Enes Kanter will Transcend the WNBA!&#8221; one basketball observer wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">Another response captured the uncertainty more accurately: &#8220;Declaring for the draft is one thing; getting drafted is also another altogether. Players go undrafted all the time. No guarantee he\/she gets a spot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">The WNBA&#8217;s CBA states that &#8220;Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA,&#8221; but the agreement doesn&#8217;t separately define transgender eligibility.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">That leaves an important and sensitive question for the league to address with considerably more care than much of the online shouting surrounding it.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ue-c-article__subheadline\">Enes Kanter&#8217;s stunt risks overshadowing real issue<\/h2>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\"><strong>Kanter&#8217;s <\/strong>intervention has been harder to treat as a genuine basketball pursuit. After reports suggested he and <strong>Royce White<\/strong> had been deemed ineligible, <strong>Kanter <\/strong>called them &#8220;fake news&#8221; and said he would &#8220;drop everything&#8221; if the WNBA explicitly defined women as &#8220;biological females.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">That framing risks turning Tetart and transgender athletes generally into props for a political argument rather than people trying to participate in sport.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Links P\u00e1rrafos\" class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph paragraph\">There is also no evidence that <strong>Tetart <\/strong>represents some imminent threat to <strong>Caitlin Clark<\/strong> or any other WNBA player.
