Marvel gave the public a first trailer for the Avengers Endgame: Encore<\/em> re-release, and it\u2019s understandably broken some records.<\/p>\n

Per Deadline, the trailer amassed over 77 million collective views in its first 24 hours. That\u2019s said to be over four times what any previous re-release trailer\u2019s opened to\u2014for comparison, Top Gun <\/em>had 19 million views, followed by the first\u00a0Avatar\u00a0<\/em>(14 million) and Titanic\u00a0<\/em>(13 million). Those three movies all had different things going for them, and\u00a0Endgame\u2019s <\/em>got quite a few things. It wasn\u2019t just the last Avengers\u00a0<\/em>movie for longer than expected; it was also the last pre-covid blockbuster. That gives it an edge, ditto its big community moments like the Portals scene that was recorded and widely shared online for the sheer \u201cthis is happening\u201d-ness of it all.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0Avengers Endgame: Encore, <\/em>Marvel and the Russo brothers hope audiences want to relive that feeling again enough to watch it and get a tiny little peek at\u00a0Avengers: Doomsday\u00a0<\/em>before it lands later in the year. Those desires might run up against the alleged four minutes\u2019 worth of new material (that\u2019s preceded by a three-hour movie, mind), not to mention the emphasis of Encore <\/em>being required homework to fully understand whatever\u2019s meant to happen in\u00a0Doomsday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s most likely not true, but just the idea of it understandably sounds exhausting to those already burnt out on the Multiverse Saga. How that reflects on the box office of either Encore\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0Doomsday,\u00a0<\/em>we\u2019ll have to wait and see. At the very least, this milestone makes clear that people still have the Avengers in their hearts and that for all its faults, Marvel\u2019s still pretty good at cutting trailers.<\/p>\n
