\n\tFrench filmmaker and screenwriter Claire Denis is the director of the 32nd\u00a0installment of the\u00a0Miu Miu Women\u2019s Tales\u00a0film\u00a0series.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe new short film, titled \u201cAvec Kim,\u201d will premiere September 5 during the upcoming edition of the\u00a0Venice Film Festival. It will follow the screening of the previous episode \u201cDiscipline,\u201d which was directed by Mona Fastvold and was first presented in New York last February,\u00a0as reported.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cMaking films for me is to get rid of explanation. It is a journey into the impossible,\u201d teased Denis in a statement.<\/p>\n
\n\tBorn in Paris in 1946, the director spent much of her childhood in colonial French Africa, an experience that shaped her work, which is known for featuring a sensual style and exploring themes of desire, alienation and race through a blend of narrative and abstraction.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tDenis gained international acclaim with the 1988 movie \u201cChocolat,\u201d a meditation about a French woman reflecting on her childhood in Cameroon and her relationship with her family\u2019s African servant. It was praised by critics and nominated for the Palme d\u2019Or at Cannes.<\/p>\n
\n\tIt was followed by other renowned movies, including the almost dialogue-free drama \u201cBeau Travail\u201d in 1999 and \u201c35 Shots of Rum\u201d in 2008. In recent years, her filmography expanded to comprise \u201cHigh Life\u201d \u2014 her first English-language feature\u00a0film\u00a0starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche in 2018 \u2014 and the 2022 releases \u201cBoth Sides of the Blade\u201d and \u201cStars at Noon,\u201d with the latter scooping up the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival that year. Her latest feature, \u201cThe Fence,\u201d was released last year.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn directing a short film for\u00a0Miu Miu, Denis follows in the footsteps of the likes of\u00a0Alice Diop,\u00a0Joanna Hogg, Dakota Fanning, Chlo\u00eb Sevigny, Agn\u00e8s Varda, Alice Rohrwacher, Miranda July and Zoe Cassavetes, to name a few.<\/p>\n
\n\tIntroduced in 2011, the\u00a0Miu Miu\u00a0Women\u2019s Tales series is an expression of the brand\u2019s creative director\u00a0Miuccia Prada\u2019s passion for cinema. In 2023, to further amplify and solidify the program, supporting rising talent in the film industry, nominating future directors, and to further ensure visibility for the series across channels and online, the Italian brand established the new Miu Miu Women\u2019s Tales Committee, including\u00a0Prada;\u00a0Prada\u00a0Group talent relations special projects director Verde Visconti; award-winning \u201cSelma\u201d director, writer and producer Ava DuVernay, who directed the fifth Women\u2019s Tales; Australian costume, production and set designer Catherine Martin, and American actress, writer and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
