Big news for fans of the word \u2018Lotus\u2019: Lotus Technology has bought 100 per cent of Lotus Advance Technologies to become\u2026 still Lotus? Yes, still Lotus.<\/p>\n

Lotus Tech \u2013 that\u2019s the Chinese-bit of the company that builds the electric stuff \u2013 has done some hardcore bidness to acquire 100 per cent of Lotus UK (weirdly called \u2018Lotus Advance Technologies Sdn Bhd\u2019), which of course is the Hethel bit of the company that builds\u2026 the Emira<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The deal, we\u2019re told, \u201cbrings Lotus\u2019 iconic British sportscar business, engineering consultancy and next-generation intelligent vehicle technologies together under a single corporate structure\u201d. Fans of Lotus Cars will of course remember the company\u2019s long\u2026 let\u2019s say \u2018nuanced\u2019 ownership structure over the years.<\/p>\n

The deal, it is claimed, will allow stronger collaboration between engineering, manufacturing, product development and commercial things too, \u201cwhile streamlining governance and accelerating the integration of capabilities across the wider business\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cLotus is one brand and one strategy, and from today it is one business,\u201d said Lotus Tech boss Qingfeng Feng. \u201cEverything that makes Lotus a Lotus \u2013 the engineering, the obsession, the discipline \u2013 now sits in a single organisation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an important step in advancing our Focus 2030 strategy and embarking on the next chapter of Lotus\u2019 global revitalisation.\u201d Ah yes, \u2018Focus 2030\u2019: that Big Shiny Plan involves a big shiny V8 hybrid supercar<\/a> with more than 986bhp (that\u2019s it up above) codenamed \u2018Type 135\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

All things going to plan, we\u2019ll see it in 2028, using a version of the hybrid setup currently buried within the Eletre X SUV<\/a>. Focus 2030 also recommits Lotus to the Emira, including a more powerful, lightweight version, and \u2018restoring financial discipline\u2019.
