The late bike-to-board guru Stratton Matteson<\/a> had stoke for snowboarding like no other.<\/strong> His motivation was unreal. He would bike 40 miles to a trailhead, hike more miles up a volcano, set up camp, shred it for the next few days\u2014all day, every day\u2014then bike dozens of miles back home, no automobiles to taint his human powered-missions. At 28 years old, he was already a legend.<\/p>\n

But in February 2026, the Bend, Oregon pro splitboarding young legend had his life taken in an avalanche<\/a> in B.C<\/strong>. It sent ripples throughout the backcountry community. One of the most dedicated persons to his craft had passed on, all too soon. Heartbreak echoed throughout the mountains near and far.<\/p>\n

\u201cSUCCESSION\u201d is a tribute film by his friend and fellow splitboarder Tyndall Wells<\/a>.<\/strong> It follows a human-powered mission with Matteson and friends to the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming in spring 2025 where they camped out and shredded gnarly lines, classic Stratton-style. The film does a wonderful job showing just who Stratton Matteson was without many words. Enjoy.<\/p>\n
