It proved popular thanks to its sharp looks, lively performance,\u00a0sharp handling, and good ride quality. It&#8217;s even more appealing in its V-Series trims, which offer a 360-horsepower\u00a0twin-turbocharged V6\u00a0or a\u00a0668-hp\u00a06.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/cadillacs-2023-ct5-v-blackwing-is-not-my-idea-of-a-cadd-1850819580\/\" target=\"_blank\">CT5-V Blackwing<\/a>\u00a0version. Still, the CT5 has taken a big hit in depreciation in the last five years, which is great news if you have a used one on your radar today.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The original starting MSRP of the luxury midsize sedan was $38,190, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbb.com\/cadillac\/ct5\/2021\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kelley Blue Book<\/a> (KBB) currently has the national average purchase price at just $23,900, meaning the 2021 Cadillac CT5 has depreciated by 37.4% after five years of ownership. That puts the base model close to the Premium Luxury trim in terms of depreciation, as we found that model to have lost 39.4% of its original value after five years. Interestingly, KBB&#8217;s fair purchase estimates show that top-spec models such as CT5 Sport and CT5-V retain value far better than the lower trims, losing 30.4 and 30.2%, respectively. The depreciation rates of the base models are also notably in line with what\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/caredge.com\/cadillac\/ct5\/depreciation\" target=\"_blank\">CarEdge<\/a>\u00a0estimates across the lineup. The site puts t the 2021 CT5&#8217;s five-year depreciation at 38.7%. The site assumes an average asking price of $44,528 five years ago, which equates to the CT5&#8217;s average resale value currently sitting at\u00a0$27,279.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"columns-holder \">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Still, based on CarEdge&#8217;s data, a five-year depreciation rate of\u00a038.7% means that the 2021 Cadillac CT5 keeps its value better than most of its similarly priced luxury sedan rivals from the 2021 model year, with only the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/the-2021-acura-tlx-is-an-incredible-stereo-with-a-damn-1845152841\/\" target=\"_blank\">2021 Acura TLX<\/a>\u00a0beating it,\u00a0seeing as it\u00a0lost only 36.8% of its value after five years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With its launch price falling by a staggering 59.8% since 2021, the Alfa Romeo Giulia has the worst resale value among the major compact luxury sedans that we could verify. It is followed by the BMW 3 Series, which suffered 47.1% depreciation. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/2115624\/2021-genesis-g70-5-year-depreciation\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Genesis G70<\/a>\u00a0is another worst-performing luxury sedan when it comes to resale value, with its price down 44.4% from what owners paid for it new. Then there&#8217;s the Audi A5 Sportback, whose value is now 43.3% below the purchase price. CarEdge doesn&#8217;t have any depreciation estimates for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. However, based on its starting MSRP of $42,650 and its current KBB fair purchase price estimate of $21,800, the five-year depreciation of the base model works out to roughly 49% \u2014 still far behind the Cadillac.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"columns-holder \">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Although the highest-mileage models are currently available well under KBB&#8217;s projected $23,900 average on online marketplaces, most 2021 Cadillac CT5s are listed above that price. At the time of writing, the cheapest CT5 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cargurus.com\/search?srpVariation=DEFAULT_SEARCH&amp;zip=M5A&amp;sortType=PRICE&amp;sortDirection=ASC&amp;distance=50&amp;makeModelTrimPaths=m22%2Fd2876%2Cm22&amp;startYear=2021&amp;endYear=2021&amp;isDeliveryEnabled=true&amp;nonShippableBaseline=538\" target=\"_blank\">CarGurus<\/a> is a 113,000-mile example listed at$17,500. Other than being a low-miler, the Sport trim&#8217;s other drawcards include standard wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Brembo brakes, as well as a sport steering wheel with magnesium shift paddles.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Because of the healthy levels of consumer appetite they enjoy in the used market, the more potent V-Series performance models usually command similarly high prices even with higher mileage.
