He will be greatly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell was the second bassist in the band, joining after the departure of founding member Mike Grose. He stayed in the band between August 1970 and January 1971 \u2013 two years before their breakthrough 1973 self-titled debut album \u2013 and reportedly played the original bass lines on songs \u2018Liar\u2019 and \u2018Son And Daughter\u2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/QueenArchivist\/posts\/1668713304195925\" data-width=\"696\"><\/div>\n<p>He left the line-up as he \u201cwasn\u2019t enthusiastic enough about their music\u201d, he revealed in a 2018 interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, looking back at his time playing live with Freddie Mercury and co.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe played quite a few concerts in England, notably in Liverpool,\u201d he said in that interview. \u201cAt the time, they weren\u2019t at all the cult band you all know\u2026 I didn\u2019t see the potential. It\u2019s crazy to say this now but it\u2019s the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was briefly replaced by Doug Bogie, who played just two gigs with the band, before Queen ultimately found long-time member John Deacon.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving Queen, Mitchell went on to join the proto-punk band Tiger, who formed in the late \u201860s under the original name Crushed Butler. RIP Barry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another friend, Gary Taylor, shared on Facebook: \u201cRIP Barry Mitchell, Queen\u2019s second bass player, who sadly passed away on August 17. He was a great guy, and a friend, and we had some very interesting chats over the years on the phone and in person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also shared an image of the bassist performing in Edinburgh in 2018, sharing that it was \u201cone of the last photos I took of Barry playing live on stage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One person commented on Taylor\u2019s post, writing: \u201cSad to hear this. We met him once at the UK Convention in 2009. He was an interesting speaker that day, and we closed the pub down that night. He will be greatly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell was the second bassist in the band, joining after the departure of founding member Mike Grose. He stayed in the band between August 1970 and January 1971 \u2013 two years before their breakthrough 1973 self-titled debut album \u2013 and reportedly played the original bass lines on songs \u2018Liar\u2019 and \u2018Son And Daughter\u2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/QueenArchivist\/posts\/1668713304195925\" data-width=\"696\"><\/div>\n<p>He left the line-up as he \u201cwasn\u2019t enthusiastic enough about their music\u201d, he revealed in a 2018 interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, looking back at his time playing live with Freddie Mercury and co.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe played quite a few concerts in England, notably in Liverpool,\u201d he said in that interview. \u201cAt the time, they weren\u2019t at all the cult band you all know\u2026 I didn\u2019t see the potential. It\u2019s crazy to say this now but it\u2019s the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was briefly replaced by Doug Bogie, who played just two gigs with the band, before Queen ultimately found long-time member John Deacon.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving Queen, Mitchell went on to join the proto-punk band Tiger, who formed in the late \u201860s under the original name Crushed Butler. RIP Barry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another friend, Gary Taylor, shared on Facebook: \u201cRIP Barry Mitchell, Queen\u2019s second bass player, who sadly passed away on August 17. He was a great guy, and a friend, and we had some very interesting chats over the years on the phone and in person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also shared an image of the bassist performing in Edinburgh in 2018, sharing that it was \u201cone of the last photos I took of Barry playing live on stage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One person commented on Taylor\u2019s post, writing: \u201cSad to hear this. We met him once at the UK Convention in 2009. He was an interesting speaker that day, and we closed the pub down that night.
