At the trial, former gang leader Duane \u201cKeffe D\u201d Davis is charged with the murder of Shakur in September 1996. He has denied the accusations\u00a0and pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post-content-read-more\">\n<li><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Who killed Tupac? Everything we know about hip-hop\u2019s greatest mystery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Yesterday (Tuesday August 17), James \u201cMob James\u201d McDonald took issue with being made to take the stand and identify those responsible for Shakur\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>As <em>BBC News<\/em> reports, McDonald said he was threatened with being held in contempt of court if he did not testify.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald was asked repeatedly if he could identify the individuals involved in the late rapper\u2019s death. Pointing to Davis, he reportedly responded: \u201cYou\u2019re asking me something that wouldn\u2019t be good for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also told the accused: \u201cI don\u2019t want to send you to prison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis is a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips street gang, while McDonald is an ex-member of rival gang Mob Piru \u2013 which is part of the larger Bloods alliance. McDonald also worked for Suge Knight\u2019s Death Row Records label, whose roster included Shakur.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad1 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"taboola-mid-article-title\">Recommended<\/h5>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In court yesterday, he repeatedly faced questions from Davis\u2019 defence attorney, Michael Sanft, about whether he saw the drive-by shooting, and if he knew who was there at the time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mob James was getting riled up because the defense lawyer for keefe D kept asking him if he saw the person that shot Tupac<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to send him to prison even though we don\u2019t like each other\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Mob James said the only reason he\u2019s there to testify is because he would be held\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/TgCZDlpeAA<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Shannonnn sharpes Burner (PARODY Account) (@shannonsharpeee) August 18, 2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He reportedly raised his voice, telling Sanft that he didn\u2019t want to answer numerous questions because it \u201cwouldn\u2019t be good\u201d for the defendant. When looking over at Davis, he said: \u201cTalk to your lawyer, man. This dude is tripping\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald also told the court: \u201cI don\u2019t want to send him to prison, even though we don\u2019t like each other. I don\u2019t want to send you to prison.\u201d He said to Sanft: \u201cYou\u2019re asking me questions that can hurt him.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Despite claiming that he did not witness the shooting, McDonald said those who were there that night in Shakur\u2019s entourage had quickly communicated who was behind the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Davis is accused of planning the murder, as a result of his nephew Orlando Anderson being involved in an altercation with Shakur just hours beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald explained in court: \u201cIt was a gang war. People were getting hurt. People were being sought. Orlando, him and certain other people were being sought because people wanted to kill them.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-vxwoax-ComponentWrapper e1aon0op1\" data-block=\"text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-126h8e-Spacer e1aon0op0\">\n<div data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-nqezkk-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>He said people wanted revenge against those responsible for Shakur\u2019s murder. McDonald claimed that Davis and his nephew were \u201cthe main subjects of a gang war \u2013 they were in the middle\u201d, while acknowledging that he was part of the war too.<\/p>\n<p>When addressing Davis again, McDonald said: \u201cWhat you are going through, brother, is what you [are] going through. I don\u2019t want to be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reggie Wright Jr \u2013 a member of Shakur\u2019s security who became Death Row Records\u2019 general manager in 1997 \u2013 also gave testimony in court. In the days ahead of the trial, Davis said that the evidence instead pointed to Wright \u2013 who is also a former Compton police officer.<\/p>\n<p>Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, after a car drove alongside him and opened fire as he travelled from a Mike Tyson boxing match. He died from his injuries six days later.<\/p>\n<p>In his 2019 memoir, Davis claimed that he was a passenger in the car that opened fire on the rapper. He claimed that he gave the gun used in the murder to his nephew, Anderson, who allegedly shot the rapper.<\/p>\n<p>Davis\u2019 legal team called the claims \u201cfiction\u201d and said that the accusations against their client come as a result of a \u201cbiased, sloppy and incomplete\u201d police investigation over the past three decades.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant has also distanced himself from the aforementioned book, claiming that sections were fictionalised to sell more copies.<\/p>\n<p>The trial is set to continue over the next few member of Tupac Shakur\u2018s entourage dodged questions about those allegedly responsible for the rapper\u2019s death during the second day of the ongoing murder trial.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard the opening statements and testimony on Monday (August 17). At the trial, former gang leader Duane \u201cKeffe D\u201d Davis is charged with the murder of Shakur in September 1996. He has denied the accusations\u00a0and pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post-content-read-more\">\n<li><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Who killed Tupac? Everything we know about hip-hop\u2019s greatest mystery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Yesterday (Tuesday August 17), James \u201cMob James\u201d McDonald took issue with being made to take the stand and identify those responsible for Shakur\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>As <em>BBC News<\/em> reports, McDonald said he was threatened with being held in contempt of court if he did not testify.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald was asked repeatedly if he could identify the individuals involved in the late rapper\u2019s death. Pointing to Davis, he reportedly responded: \u201cYou\u2019re asking me something that wouldn\u2019t be good for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also told the accused: \u201cI don\u2019t want to send you to prison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis is a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips street gang, while McDonald is an ex-member of rival gang Mob Piru \u2013 which is part of the larger Bloods alliance. When looking over at Davis, he said: \u201cTalk to your lawyer, man. This dude is tripping\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald also told the court: \u201cI don\u2019t want to send him to prison, even though we don\u2019t like each other. I don\u2019t want to send you to prison.\u201d He said to Sanft: \u201cYou\u2019re asking me questions that can hurt him.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Despite claiming that he did not witness the shooting, McDonald said those who were there that night in Shakur\u2019s entourage had quickly communicated who was behind the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Davis is accused of planning the murder, as a result of his nephew Orlando Anderson being involved in an altercation with Shakur just hours beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald explained in court: \u201cIt was a gang war. People were getting hurt. People were being sought. Orlando, him and certain other people were being sought because people wanted to kill them.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-vxwoax-ComponentWrapper e1aon0op1\" data-block=\"text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-126h8e-Spacer e1aon0op0\">\n<div data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-nqezkk-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>He said people wanted revenge against those responsible for Shakur\u2019s murder. McDonald claimed that Davis and his nephew were \u201cthe main subjects of a gang war \u2013 they were in the middle\u201d, while acknowledging that he was part of the war too.<\/p>\n<p>When addressing Davis again, McDonald said: \u201cWhat you are going through, brother, is what you [are] going through. I don\u2019t want to be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reggie Wright Jr \u2013 a member of Shakur\u2019s security who became Death Row Records\u2019 general manager in 1997 \u2013 also gave testimony in court. In the days ahead of the trial, Davis said that the evidence instead pointed to Wright \u2013 who is also a former Compton police officer.<\/p>\n<p>Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, after a car drove alongside him and opened fire as he travelled from a Mike Tyson boxing match. He died from his injuries six days later.<\/p>\n<p>In his 2019 memoir, Davis claimed that he was a passenger in the car that opened fire on the rapper.
