From September 18\u201320, 2026, that wild, untamed landscape becomes the ultimate playground for the fifth annual Mammoth TUFF. Returning for its second consecutive year as an official UCI Gravel World Series qualifier, this event delivers a ride on the wild side that only the Eastern Sierra can provide.<\/p>\n

Co-founded by veteran gravel racers Amanda (Nauman) Sheek and David Sheek, Mammoth TUFF was built to share the magic of the high-alpine backroads they love. The very name is a nod to the region\u2019s geological roots: \u201ctuff\u201d is the consolidated pyroclastic rock formed 760,000 years ago during the massive eruption of the Long Valley Caldera. Just as the landscape is forged in fire and sculpted by history, the event itself is structured as a parallel adventure, offering a route that is TUFF enough for your ambitions, paired with an immersive weekend itinerary that turns the entire getaway into an unforgettable journey.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, September 19, riders take on courses starting and finishing right in The Village at Mammoth. Whether you choose the TUFF short course (~40 miles and +2,100 feet), the TUFFER medium course (67 miles and +3,500 feet), or the formidable TUFFEST long course (89 miles and +7,500 feet), you will navigate past steaming geothermal hot springs, thread through red rock canyons, and roll across volcanic vistas framed by towering mountains all around. While competitive racers can target UCI World Championship qualification, Mammoth TUFF is built for everyone, and every rider has a place on this start line.<\/p>\n

The adventure doesn\u2019t start and end on the bike, either. The entire weekend is crafted as a full-scale mountain festival. Friday, September 18, invites travelers to spin out their legs on pre-ride shakeouts, handle registration in the Village, and dive headfirst into the high-energy local tradition of the Mammoth BUFF Beer Mile presented with Shelter Distilling. After Saturday\u2019s grueling miles and afternoon UCI podium celebrations, the weekend crescendos on Sunday, September 20. Participants gather for non-UCI category awards and the legendary \u201cbiggest raffle in gravel.\u201d From there, you can easily pack up and head home or choose to stay an extra day to trade your gravel tires for chairlift laps on the closing day of Mammoth Mountain\u2019s Bike Park.<\/p>\n
