Start --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\">Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> made headlines when she, alongside Nick Kyrgios, brought back the \u2018Battle of the Sexes\u2019 at the beginning of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>The match was very controversial, with any suggesting the match was undeserving of the format set by Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King, in the latter\u2019s fight for fairer pay for women\u2019s tennis.<\/p>\n<p>However, it proved a success and Sabalenka has not ruled out returning to the format to play another top star on the ATP Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Coco Gauff has been asked if she would ever play a male star in a singles match, with an interviewer asking if she would consider playing currently world No 3 Carlos Alcaraz.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@sportsseriously\/video\/7675468634558418189\" target=\"_blank\">USA Today Sports<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\">Gauff<\/a> was asked about her father recently stating that he would back the American to defeat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> in a singles match.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if she would ever consider playing Alcaraz, Gauff said:\u00a0\u201cFor the sake of my confidence I probably wouldn\u2019t step on the court with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the American did unveil her desire to team with Alcaraz in mixed doubles.<\/p>\n<h2>More Carlos Alcaraz news<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-usopen-fitness-test-holger-rune\">Carlos Alcaraz could stage a very public US Open fitness test as he is set for final decision<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-record-cincinnati-open\">Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner share a record at the Cincinnati Open that will likely never be broken<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be opposed to it, but I\u2019d rather he stepped on the same side of the court with me and I\u2019d be down to play mixed doubles with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gauff has made a name for herself as a doubles star, as well as dominated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/WTA-Tour\">WTA Tour<\/a> as one of the most popular singles players in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>The American has won 10 doubles titles in her career alongside partners Caty McNally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jessica-pegula\">Jessica Pegula<\/a>, McCartney Kessler, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/katerina-siniakova\">Katerina Siniakova<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff has also partnered with the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/venus-williams\">Venus Williams<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/alex-eala\">Alex Eala<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Chris-Eubanks\">Chris Eubanks<\/a> and Christian Harrison in mixed doubles.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, neither Gauff or Alcaraz have signed up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/us-open\">US Open<\/a> Mixed Doubles yet, so the all-star partnership could come as soon as this year.<\/p>\n<p>The US Open is reportedly saving a wildcard spot for Alcaraz should he be fit enough to play the Grand Slam, after his race against time to recovery from the wrist injury he suffered in April.<\/p>\n<p>He has been rumoured to be playing alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/serena-williams\">Serena Williams<\/a> in the Mixed Doubles, but you could argue that Gauff would be just as headline-grabbing for Alcaraz.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff has never played the US Open Mixed Doubles since its inauguration in 2025, while Alcaraz was paired with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Emma Raducanu<\/a> last season.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz and Raducanu were defeated by Pegula and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jack-draper\">Jack Draper<\/a> in the first round of the tournament in
