\n\tA book of immaculate drawings that has been stewarded by the Van Eeghen family in the Netherlands for more than three centuries has been donated to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where it will go on view starting August 19.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn a press release, the museum said, \u201cThe Van Eeghen Drawing Book<\/em> can be considered a new highlight of the Rijksmuseum Print Room Collection, as well as one of the most significant additions to this collection in recent years.\u201d The institution also noted that it is exceptionally rare for a 17th-century drawing book\u2014\u201ccarefully kept and passed down from generation to generation\u201d\u2014to have survived completely intact.<\/p>\n \n\tAttribution for the book had long been unknown until around two decades ago, when a connection was established with Rombout Uylenburgh, a Dutch painter who worked at the Polish royal court in Krak\u00f3w, and his workshop. The exhibition opening around the book will include \u201ca substantial part of Uylenburgh\u2019s small surviving body of work,\u201d according to the Rijksmuseum.<\/p>\n \n\tAbout the book\u2014which features around 30 drawings, including a series of biblical scenes\u2014Taco Dibbits, the museum\u2019s general director, said, \u201cThe\u00a0Van Eeghen Drawing Book<\/em>\u00a0is a highlight of Dutch draughtsmanship. The donation enables the\u00a0Rijksmuseum\u00a0to introduce everyone to Rombout Uylenburgh, a fascinating artist of whom very little work has survived.
