He was surrounded by his family, and no cause of death has been shared.<\/p>\n<p>ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons has paid tribute to Beard, describing him as \u201cone of the most naturally\u00a0innovating\u00a0drummers\u201d and a \u201cgreat and true son of Texas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Beard\u2019s \u201csignature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top\u201d, while confirming that the band intend to continue performing in keeping with the drummer\u2019s wishes. He then stepped away again earlier this year, with Michael Monahan stepping in behind the drumkit.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Frankston, Texas in 1949, Beard began playing drums as a teenager, when he met his future\u00a0bandmate\u00a0Dusty Hill. They played together in groups including The\u00a0Cellar Dwellers, The\u00a0Warlocks\u00a0and The Outlaws, before Beard joined Gibbons in ZZ Top in 1969. He introduced Gibbons to\u00a0Hill\u00a0and the band\u2019s classic line-up was formed.<\/p>\n<p>They became synonymous with a blend of rock and blues\u00a0in the \u201970s, with early classic songs including \u2018La Grange\u2019, while they\u00a0found greater commercial success in the \u201980s with the \u2018Eliminator\u2019 album, which included \u2018Gimme All Your Lovin\u2019, \u2018Sharp Dressed Man\u2019 and \u2018Legs\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>They sold more than 50million records across their\u00a0career\u00a0and they were inducted into the Rock\u00a0And\u00a0Roll Hall\u00a0Of\u00a0Fame in He then stepped away again earlier this year, with Michael Monahan stepping in behind the drumkit.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Frankston, Texas in 1949, Beard began playing drums as a teenager, when he met his future\u00a0bandmate\u00a0Dusty Hill. They played together in groups including The\u00a0Cellar Dwellers, The\u00a0Warlocks\u00a0and The Outlaws, before Beard joined Gibbons in ZZ Top in 1969.
