Not many athletes can say they were insulted by a U.S. President. <\/strong>Olympic halfpipe skier Hunter Hess can.<\/p>\n

In the lead-up to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy, several Team USA athletes attended a press conference where they spoke candidly about their mixed emotions in representing the country. <\/strong>When asked about his feelings, Hess said: \u201cJust because I\u2019m wearing the flag doesn\u2019t mean I represent everything that\u2019s going on in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, President Donald Trump<\/a> took to his social media platform, where he vilified the skier. <\/b>\u201cU.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn\u2019t represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics,\u201d the President wrote. \u201cIf that\u2019s the case, he shouldn\u2019t have tried out for the Team, and it\u2019s too bad he\u2019s on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

    President Trump\u2019s comments led to thousands of hate comments and death threats targeted at the skier.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    But instead of quietly backing down, Hess decided to use the moment for good. <\/strong>And thus, The Real Loser Project<\/em><\/a> was born \u2014 a merchandise sale for which 100% of the proceeds are donated to Stoked<\/a><\/em>, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged youth participate in action sports like surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding.<\/p>\n

    Just last week, Hess took to his Instagram<\/a> with a major update: The Real Loser Project raised an incredible $30,000 for Stoked<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u201c$30,000 is going toward giving more kids access to action sports, mentorship, and opportunities they deserve,\u201d the 27-year-old wrote.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
