Could\u2019ve been a whole <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/electric\/its-finally-here-meet-ferrari-luce-maranellos-first-ever-fully-electric-car\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"4a9ed7ab-b0f7-43ef-87a2-b859d5fb7d4e\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"It\u2019s finally here: meet the Ferrari Luce, Maranello\u2019s first ever fully electric car\">Luce<\/a> worse. Cover the badges and it looks like a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/electric\/bmw-will-build-a-new-petrol-m3-just-case-you-hate-1000bhp-electric-version\">BMW<\/a>. There\u2019s a tasteful amount of historic nods without going retro or pastiche. And all the while, the haters can be pacified by the fact there\u2019s still going to be a similar looking version with a straight six behind that shark snout.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Compared to some of the utter horrors perpetrated by the BMW design haus this decade (iX, XM, 2 Series Gran Coupe, M4, 7 Series, X7&#8230;) this is the right side of innovative. Handsome, even. And more interesting \u2013 more experimental \u2013 than the Taycans and EQEs of the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<h3>Greg Potts: \u201cI can\u2019t say I\u2019m spying many links to the neat little E30\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>BMW\u2019s M department has thrown the clean, Bauhaus-spec Neue Klasse design book in the bin and gone all in with, well&#8230; <em>everything<\/em> for its first electric M3. I\u2019ve seen London buses narrower than that diffuser, and I can\u2019t say I\u2019m spying many links to the neat little <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/retro\/meet-your-heroes-e30-m3-most-iconic-bmw-ever\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"7b4aee35-2056-4d7c-a889-2a09d50ada35\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Meet your heroes: is the E30 M3 the most iconic BMW ever?\">E30<\/a>. Still, at least the interior will appeal to those who used to wrap the slats of their kidney grilles in M Sport colours.<\/p>\n<p>On that note, presumably the combustion-engined car will get a reworked front end for cooling purposes, and hopefully BMW sees fit to stick on a normal set of wheels at the same time.
