It turns out that these factors are putting so much pressure on console manufacturers that Sony hasn&#8217;t even got a release date for the PlayStation 6 internally.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/media\/sony-ceo-hiroki-totoki-efc8923f\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>, Sony CEO Hiroko Totoki revealed that multiple parts of the Sony hardware business are being affected by the on-going component crisis. The article, mostly concerned with Sony&#8217;s evolution from a company making Walkman and Discman devices into a multimedia hardware, software, and media empire, does touch on gaming &#8211; albeit briefly.<\/p>\n<p>As pointed out by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/playstation-6-release-date-still-hasnt-been-decided-sony-ceo-hiroki-totoki-says\/\">VGC<\/a>, the article outlines that a number of analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/sony-doesnt-expect-playstation-6-before-2027-confidential-document-suggests\">expected the PS6 to arrive in 2027<\/a>, but it seems even Sony doesn&#8217;t actually know when the console will arrive yet. &#8220;Totoki said the company still hasn&#8217;t fixed a date for PS6&#8217;s launch,&#8221; summarised the Wall Street Journal. This isn&#8217;t really surprising: Totoki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ps6-release-plans-sony-business-model\">gave a similar update in May<\/a>, where he noted &#8220;we would like to really observe and follow the situation [\u2026] Looking at the current circumstances, the memory price is also expected to be very high FY 2027 [&#8230;] We must think carefully what we will do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Safe to say, then, we&#8217;re probably going to wait a while for Sony&#8217;s next console. A console, no doubt, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/playstation-6-implications-sony-end-of-physical-media\">that will ship without support for discs<\/a> and go all-in on Sony&#8217;s controversial &#8216;all-digital future&#8217;. Despite plenty of consumer outcry, the company has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/sony-physical-media-decision-final\">remained bullish<\/a> in its commitment to scrapping discs by 2028 (the earliest, at this point, we&#8217;re realistically going to see the PS6 on the market).
