Fourteen weeks later, it reached No. 1 on the list, where it stayed for a second week \u2014 not as long as the summer vacation in the song\u2019s coming-of-age plot, but a great career starter nonetheless.<\/p>\n

\n\tSongwriter Matraca Berg (Martina McBride\u2019s \u201cWild Angels,\u201d Trisha Yearwood\u2019s \u201cWrong Side of Memphis\u201d) envisioned \u201cStrawberry Wine\u201d as a reflection of a visit to her grandparents\u2019 Wisconsin farm, and when she shared the nostalgic concept with Gary Harrison (George Strait\u2019s \u201cI Hate Everything,\u201d Yearwood\u2019s \u201cEverybody Knows\u201d), she found a willing cowriter. Yearwood considered recording it for a time but ultimately passed.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarter, working with producer Chris Farren (Corey Kent, Kevin Sharp), turned it into a signature as it won the Nashville Songwriters Association International\u2019s song of the year, plus song and single of the year from the Country Music Association.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song, certified double-Platinum by the RIAA, was released on Carter\u2019s quintuple-Platinum debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This?<\/em>, along with the 1997 Hot Country Songs No. 1s \u201cWe Danced Anyway\u201d and \u201cHow Do I Get There.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cStrawberry Wine\u201d was subsequent cited in the lyrics of Thomas Rhett\u2019s \u201cWhat\u2019s Your Country Song,\u201d a No. 1 on the chart in 2021, and has been the subject of multiple other versions. The same year, Carter enlisted McBride, Lauren Alaina, Ashley McBryde, Vince Gill and Kylie Morgan for a 25th-anniversary remake, while this year it earned a dance remix by New York-based DJ Deerock.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
